    Sucker.

First thing he should have done is bought her a ring of the same expense the average Joe can afford and see if she balks.

Buying a trophy wife / paying an escort; only difference is the duration of the deal.

I'm not sure what he expects to come from this lawsuit. I can't see him getting anything back, but he'll get to spend some more on her by paying lawyer and court fees I reckon.

Paying that much for a ring puts you in the "reap what you sow" category, imo of course

To paraphrase H.L Hunt's comment about his son Lamar's first season in KC:

"This is horrible - another 120 or 121 broken engagements, and Mario will be broke".

Cubic Z Mario. Put it in a nice setting she will never know. Unless she gets it checked out. Then you can play the "I knew you didn't trust me" card and its her fault for checking up.

On an unrelated note, I don't understand why my relationships don't work out better ...

I'll side with Mario on this one.

Maybe he's a bit gullible here but who knows? Maybe he has been with the girl for a long time and that made her easy to trust. Obviously he wanted to marry her and was fooled by her charade. Doesn't make him wrong just makes him naive to think that there aren't women out there that will only see him for what he's financially worth.

That ring isn't worth that much compared to how much he's being paid though. This seems more like a principle thing.

I'll never understand why a woman would think that they were entitled to keep an engagement ring from someone they did not marry. That's something that should be returned the moment you call it off. I don't know what kind of legal precedent might exist where this is concerned but I believe that in a world where what's right prevails this should be a slam-dunk for Mario. If she can't return the ring she should be facing jail time.

Texas is a conditional gift state. If she called it off, he gets it back. If he called it off, she keeps it.

That was my understanding. What would be Mario's next course of action if she "sold" the ring and now claim to be broke?

The price you pay for being rich and famous. I think Mario needs to understand a few things for his future relationship.

    1. Need to take time and make sure she is the one before you make any kind of commitment including finance.
    2. Mario is well known figure(rich and famous) and people tends to come to him just for that reason.
    3. His life style is very different from normal folks and sometime spending a large amount of money on someone can manipulate their behavior and thinking unintentionally.

I kinda feel for him though. When you meet someone you really love, you kind go blind about everything and just trying everything to keep that person in your life.

For his ex-fiance, I think she should give a ring back to him as a nice gesture for her part. You know, she could have done to Mario much worst by marrying him for a several years and got much more money from Mario.
Ar least she broke up with Mario before really damaging his life. Mario should learn his lesson from this relationship.

Good post! If the former fiancee' stayed in the relationship long enough to gain Mario's trust, and dump him after getting more than a million dollars through gifts and engagement ring, he could thank her for being so short sighted. Imagine a million dollar wedding at his expense, two kids in two years, salary he earned the two or three years married, could have cost at least ten times more. He should probably consider the gifts the cost of tuition to the university of hard knocks, but he should get the ring back if she still has it. If not she should be indebted to him until the cost is paid in full.
