How many sacks do you think Mario Williams (or any other defensive player...please name in your response) will have against the Lions QB?

I predict 4.5 considering how horrible there offensive line is.

Since you asked how many do I think Mario will have, I voted 2+.

Obviously, I would have voted much higher if the question was how many do I hope he gets. :mario3:

Since you did not have too many to count plus infinity, I went with too many to count.

I'm thinking two+ is a pretty safe bet.

Thinking about it I think Mario will get 1-1.5. The suprise of this game will come from the interior DL's pressure which is why I think this is Amobi's breakout game:

    http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54573

Lions have a capable LT in Jeff Backus, Gosder Cherilus is a road grader at RT but falls short in pass protection especially when he'll be matched up with Mario.

Lions should shift their protections to whichever side Mario lines up to try and slow him down opening up opportunities for the rest of the DL. Without the RB/FB staying inside the interior, Amobi and friends should be able to blow right through the swiss cheese interior OL and make Orlovsky run to the tunnel.

What would be great is having a break out game From Okoye. He's been flushing the QB out for Mario to mop up. Be nice to see him dominate and take over a game.

I thought Erick Winston played an excellent game last week. I hope he gets some love when the pro bowl ballots come out.

    ********************************************
    Dan Orlovsky Grade: 3.46
    Position: QB
    Class: Sr
    School: Connecticut
    Conference: Big East
    Ht., Wt.: 6-5, 225
    40 Time: 5.02
    Selected by: Detroit Lions
Round 5, pick 9 (145 overall) Grading System

BIO: Passing numbers included 63 percent/3,354/23/15 as a senior after 62.5 percent/3,485/33/14 the prior year. Totaled seven 300-yards games the past two seasons.

POSITIVES: Well-sized pocket passer with a big arm and solid intangibles. Sets up with solid footwork, displays good pocket stature and patiently waits for receivers to come open. Sells the ball fakes, possesses a quick release and zips the outs. Leads wideouts or hits them in stride over the middle and displays solid timing on the outs. Goes to the safety outlet if nothing is available downfield. Commands the offense and does not make poor choices. Senses the rush, stepping up to avoid defenders. Powers the ball over the middle and places it where only his receivers can make the reception.

NEGATIVES: Slow setting up in the pocket. Steps out of throws, which adversely affects his accuracy. Directs his passes and gets wild at times. Not always poised under pressure. Gathers before releasing the ball. Must improve his downfield accuracy. Performed poorly at the Senior Bowl and was worse at the Combine.

ANALYSIS: Productive throughout his college career, Orlovsky possesses the size, arm strength, and intangibles to develop into a starting quarterback at the next level. Needs to brush up the fundamentals and quickly get his game back on track. A solid late-round pick who can develop on a practice squad or in NFL Europe.

    PROJECTION: Late Fifth Round

    *****************************************************

He showed his poise and "awareness".............without pressure. [See Video of his Safety last week, retitled "Dumbest QB Ever!"]

Although this is his 2005 SI Draft Profile, last week did nothing to dispell any of the negatives. I would not be surprise to see Mario with 3 sacks, Okoye with 1........and some INTs sprinkled into the mix.

    Big day.

    Team sacks: 6.

PS-Don't expect THOSE kind of numbers to continue all season.

I think Mario gets 3 sacks - I hope he gets at least 4 with Okoye chiming in with a few of his own.

If there is a time to shine this season - this be it for the defense. They have the opportunity to really dominate.

I'm hoping RS has a defensive stroke of genius moment or just gets out of the way.

I wouldn't mind if the Texans sprinkled on the Lions.

I have a feeling we're setting ourselves up for disappointment. With that said, 1 sack for MW, just to keep expectations low.

2.5 sacks for Mario, 1 for Okoye, 1.5 somewhere else...
