I think that is a really dumb move by the bears, but I doubt this has anything to do with the Texans in the long run.

Maybe the Eagles and the Bears trade head coaches? lol.

The only reason he was even in Chicago in 2012 was that the McCaskey's told Phil Emery they would only give him the new GM job was that Smith was retained and evaluated on a 1 year basis. It's pretty obvious Emery wants his own guy in there (Who will not be as good as Lovie Smith).

It's not as dumb as Schottenheimer getting fired after going 14-2, but it's up there.

He's been there 9 years and only made the playoffs three times.

Yes, lets hire the guy who coordinates the side of the football that Peyton Manning plays on. I'm sure it'll work out just great. . . like all those Colts OC's who were obviously geniuses in the making.

Smith was failed more by an incompetent GM (when it comes to drafting) in Jerry Angelo, than anything else.

EDIT: Titans are keeping Munchak according to Jim Wyatt.

I'm seriously not understanding the support for Lovie Smith. I'd have thought our fans would appreciate the break from mediocrity.

You wish the Texans would fire Kubiak during a playoff run? You also realize the Bears failed to make the playoffs the last two years despite starting both years strong and finishing terrible down the stretch?

Yeah, me too. Apparently not making the playoffs the last two years is somehow an upgrade over making it...

Looking back, the writing was probably on the wall when Angelo was fired after the 2011 season. Lovie's inability to make the offense work was basically what did him in but you really have to wonder what this means for a lot of the guys who are in FA this year and next year (Which is more than 50% of the roster I believe).

Earlier this season I got into a discussion with someone on this board about potential coach openings. I mentioned Chicago. At the time, Chicago was 7-1 and this person said that there was no way the Chicago would be open.

As I replied to that person at the time, you never know what a team's overall goals are for the season, and how the season will go. The Bears may have finished with a winning record, but they're out of the playoffs. Clearly, that was important to the management in Chicago.

Remember when Arizona was the hot team this year? How'd that work out for Ken Whisenhunt?

Despite his playoff success, with Smith at the helm the Bears always seemed to be a contender despite being shackled by Angelo's drafting and FA acquisitions (or lack thereof).

What interests me is whether or not the entire coaching staff will be let go; if that were the case, I'd love to see Rick Smith try and poach Toub, Chicago's ST coach.

    lol

McCoy entered the NFL as an offensive assistant in 2000 with Carolina…the following year McCoy was promoted to wide receiver coach…McCoy was retained on staff when John Fox became HC in Carolina in 2002 and became an offensive assistant again who worked with all skill positions…in 2004 he was names QB coach and added passing game coordinator to that title in 2007…between 04 & 08 Jake Delhomme had the 3 best seasons of his career in 05,06 & 08…that earned McCoy the OC job with Denver in 2009 under Josh McDaniels…McCoy also coached the QBs…Kyle Orton had the best 2 years of his career under McCoy in 09 & 10…2011 he had to suffer through Tebow that hurt his offence altho they did finish with the #1 rushing offence in the NFL...then this year he has had Payton Manning at QB so has had an armchair ride…he certainly seems to get the most out of QBs…personality wise I don’t have a clue…haven’t even heard the guy speak before...but the fact Manning seems happy with him makes you think he is a smart coach he plans well and is very detail orientated.
