If you workout, then you know this is VERY normal. He is 30lbs bigger NOW that at season end. And they said he was WORKINGOUT. It is not easy to put on muscle without adding overall size as well(fat included). Then you do cardio and diet and keep the muscle and loose that fat.
So, you use the formula of 30lbs and 3(months) thats 10lbs per month of gain. Then you must consider that half of it if he is workingout is muscle. Making him 15lbs heavier, but solid come the season.
I'm a personal trainer, thats how it works guys. No need to worry till training camp if he is still 30lbs over.
