coming up on houstontexans.com
Thanks for the info.
anything of note said in the press c. ?
NO!!!! I'm sure one of the guys will give a better analysis of the interview, so I won't even try. Same old stuff we always hear from the head honchos. A lot of words that mean nothing, simple because we have already heard it, or read it. NOTHING NEW! JMO!!
The main things that I remember from it...
...Glenn Earl is out for the season...
...C.C. Brown is moving to strong safety...
...they will be bringing in some new guys to compete with Von Hutchins for the free safety spot...
...Chester Pitts will be out for at least another week...
...Anthony Weaver will not play until the final preseason game...
A lot of other things were said, but these are the facts regarding starters.
I only caught part of it and it was a while back... but...
He saw things on special teams that he liked from Pass so they're going to give him a shot next week. Jameel Cook is going to work out and they're going to see if he's ready to go tomorrow.
We'll probably get some street guys in here the next couple of days to add a body or two to the safety position.
They're also going to work Pitts out and see if he's ready to go this week. McCardell is probably out this next week. Don't expect to see Weaver until the last pre-season game.
He went over the film with Jethro and even though they didn't get stats from Mario, they think he played better. He also mentioned that Babin has really improved and is making some noise. He talked about how it was an experience for Okoye and he needs to improve at the point of attack but now this is out of the way and he knows what he needs to work on.
Abbate's hamstring is still giving him trouble. He messed it up at combine time and he is still having issues.
(could you clarify that a little?)
He basically said Mario is doing well even if it's not translating into stats yet...it will eventually.
Even though he didn't get a sack or tackle or anything else that would generate a statistic in the 2 series Mario played, Jethro thinks that Mario played better than last year.
So ... I'm thinking that's not what Jethro told Mario . I think this is what Jethro says to Mario .
WHAT THE @##$^% ARE DOING OUT THERE ? WE NEED YOU TO BE A #$#%%^MANIAC ... I'M TIRED OF SEEING YOU GET HELD UP AT THE #^% LINE OF #$&^*& SCRIMMAGE . MARIO I WANT YOU TO TEAR INTO SOMEONES $%$&# FAT #$%&&8 BUTT . DO NOT BRING THAT $%**%& AGAIN .
Really bad news about Earl. Somewhere, somebody reported his injury was similar to the foot injury Faggins suffered last year where he was back playing by the middle of the year.
But this is much more severe. I beleive they said it will take 9-12 months to recover from after the surgery and then I guess they'll have rehab ? So being ready to play for the season opener might be an issue. That's the season opener for the 2008 season.
Faggins was diagnosed with a "Jones fracture" in his right foot. He fractured the fifth metatarsal. The fracture was pinned in place to help the healing process, and then Faggins faced a prognosis of 6-10 weeks of rehabilitation.
In a nut shell, a "lis-franc" fracture dislocation involves a violent twisting fracture of the arch (second metatarsal) of the foot, with dislocation of adjacent joint(s) along with severe tendinous and soft tissue damage. The foot is left unstable and and require meticulous open surgical stabilization, depending on the number and location of the fractures and dislocations. The screws are usually left in place for about 6 months. Meanwhile, weight bearing is not usually allowed until at least 8 weeks. Athletes seldom return within 1 year. Believe it or not, a "lis-franc" injury without fracture despite open surgical stabilization, has a progosis that is significantly poorer for return. Hopefully, the latter is not the case.
Earl has probably played his last snap as a Houston Texan. I wish him the best of luck, but lets be honest..... Earl was not the future long term "answer" at SS.
Now CC is playing in his natural position and the Texans might actually have a chance to UPGRADE the safety spot, because of Glenn's injury.
Given the way this staff talks about injuries - i.e. little information - this makes a little concerned. They were always noncommittal about Spencer with quotes like "we'll see how he looks in camp". I'm pretty sure they knew he was going on the PUP well before camp started.
Now with Pitts it seems like it started with "he'd play if it was a regular season game", now it is "out at least another week". What will it be next week? "Should be better by the first regular season game"?
I share your concern since one of the reports supposedly mentioned that the MRI demonstrated a herniated disc............everything before and after this report has implied "muscle spasms." They aren't the same, and they don't carry the same implications. As I mentioned in a previous post...........what is really going on is suspect.
Thats not good. Hopefully he fixes it before it becomes like Mathis
Think of it this way: Say the 1st string guy at 80% is still better than the 2nd string guy at 100% - Pitts vs Hodgdon is a prime example. So, when the games really count, 1st string guy would be pushed back into the lineup sooner. But this time of year there's no reason to ask 1st string guy to play if he's only 80% or even 90% back when you can (a) give him another week to recover fully and (b) use this excuse to get the 2nd string guy more experience.
If you think Kubiak is bad, you should listen to the talking heads try to get a read on Belichick when he's talking about his players' injury status. They've been griping about him for years.
Kubiak isn't doing anything other coaches don't do. Its all coach-speak.
My concern was that Pitts ends up at 0% like Spencer, and the team is minimalizing the information. They have some short history in that regard with Davis and Spencer. It's even worse if they really didn't realize the extent of the injuires.
Note I say I have a concern, not that I think this is a fact (as I did with Spencer early in the off season).
Its already different then Mathis. Abbate is playing is way through the pain, Mathis took the year off.
