Chris Mortenson is evidently reporting Garrard is the starter and the Jags are either gong to trade or release Gary Coleman.

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports the Jacksonville Jaguars will likely either trade or release QB Byron Leftwich.

    Jaguars | Garrard to start
    Fri, 31 Aug 2007 13:34:21 -0700

Chris Mortensen, of ESPN, reports Jacksonville Jaguars QB David Garrard will start for the team.

Oh, I think this is smart move for J-Ville. I wonder who makes the move for Byron?

I can't see anyone giving the Jags much of anything. Leftwich has a big cartoon wind up and he can't get the ball out of his hands quickly enough to be a top NFL QB...Casserly is out of the league but I hear he wants to give the Jags a 2nd and a 3rd.

Garrard gives them a better chance to win, but it's sad to see this happen to Gary Coleman. First there's the run in with a fan while working as a security guard at the mall, then he was having to do ads for one of those cash advance places, and now he's lost his job as the QB for the Jags. Poor little fella.

Falcons. Falcons or nobody I think.

Though personally I'd take Joey over Byron.

So is this the beginning of the end of the Jags?

Chaos at the QB position and likely further unhappiness of the fan base.

Coach who can't get his team geeked for teams they think are beneath them.

    Spoiled fans.

Small market without many corporate sponsors.

Fixing to be blacked out game one against the Titans.

They don't have much of a margin to stay in Jacksonville.

I think this pretty much seals a Week 1 black-out in J-Ville. :shades:

I think that Garrard has started 15 of the last 22 games if I heard coach Del Rio right in his presser, so not starting Leftwich isn't too unusual lately. I don't think it hurts the Jags much because whenever we played the Jags Leftwich was about the only QB I ever saw play that I thought Carr was better than. I think I counted 3 times when Del Rio mentioned the fact that Garrard has a quick release.

They found out that Couch was using steroids. So now they've dropped Leftwich, named Garrard their new starter, and they'll bring Couch back because he's "their kind o' people."

I see the Falcons in Lefty's future.

I kind of understand the trade (last year of his contract and he hasn't done much) but he hasn't been terrible. Gerrard imploded in Nashville last year and while fun to watch from our standpoint, I don't see how Del Rio and the Jag's brass can place the whole season in his hands. I don't think this will work out long-term and I see them going QB early in April.

Yeah, but there's ways to do things and then there's ways to do things. Del Rio was already being criticized before this. It has to be weird locker room wise and also in the city.

People talk about the game being a business, but it is hard making relationships with people, the sort of stuff you need to make yourself a team, and then with little warning just cut you.

I'm a big believe in treating people with dignity and respect when you send someone out the door, the best you can without hurting yourself--because it sends a bad message to the team otherwise--that you can't trust what comes out of management's mouth.

Well and it is weird as hell. Why name Leftwich as the starter right after the season, have him get most of the reps against the ones, and then cut him now?????
