It'd be nice to have a Polomalu/Roy Williams type of player...

I think that's what our defense desperately needs. I think our defense would really benefit from having a tough guy at safety to help us stop the run. A Troy Polomalu or Roy Williams type of player would be really good for us. I mean, I hardly ever take notice of any of the safeties during the football game. I've never thought "hey CC Brown/Simmons played a good game today". It seems they are just non-existant. The only headlines they ever make is that they're hurt or injured.

And as for Coleman being out there, it would seem that he should be playing corner for us like he used to rather than being a safety. Surely he's better than Faggins or Buchanon isn't he?

If we had a Polamalu or a Roy Williams there is no way Fangio would use them to their strengths. He'd keep them in two deep coverage all game long, and wouldn't let them creat havoc in the opposing teams backfield.

As for Coleman being better at CB than Faggins or Buchanon I wouldn't be so sure about that. He was getting burned pretty often towards the end of the season the year before they decided to make the switch. To add to that he's been playing pretty soft all year at FS, and he'd probably play just as soft at CB.

All anyone needs to do is watch him cover 4.7 speed demon Ernest Wilford.

Polomalu's strength is not coverage either.

the one thing to keep in mind is that you are talking about strong safties...these guys are typically undersized college linebackers...they're main job is to help in rush defense not pass defense...there are few SS who are actually better at pass coverage than run support...ed reed is one...leroy butler back in the day was another one...these guys are few in numbers...so when you're saying we need a better pass coverage SS what you should be thinking is that we need an upgrade at FS

Well yes and no. As you can see from many of the big plays against the Texans this year, they rely heavily on both safeties in pass protection--the Harrison TD over Dunta being an example last weekend--Dunta expected Brown to be over the top. Polamalu (not being stuck in a passive, read and react, rarely blitz D) plays a lot of run support and as Carr can testify blitzing. Can anyone remember the last time the Texans sent a safety blitz?

the problem with coleman is that i feel the same thing that happened to aaron glenn will happen to him. i think the first opportunity we have to let him go, then we will. as a safety, hes too soft in pass coverage and virtually non existant in the run-defense. as a corner, he's big, but hes too slow and will get beat easily down the field. remember in 2003 in the 2nd to last game vs the titans, drew bennett lit him up in the 4th qtr, especially on the final play of the game where mcnair lobbed it to the back of the endzone with coleman not even close to bennett, who caught the TD.

just like what happened to glenn, coleman will be cut ASAP.

The only one I remember all season was on one play in the preseason. Strike that I believe there was on in the Bills game. Brown blitzed Losman, but they were near the goal line. I want to say it was on the TD pass to the OT playing as a TE. Brown missed Losman, and he was able to buy enough time to loft the pass for a TD or at least that's how I seem to recall it happening.

Ya'll got me dying laughing over here. A guy like Roy isn't good enough to play on THIS team?

That comment was a joke and a half.

It's y'all and the comment was that Roy isn't great in coverage (definitely his weakness) not that he wasn't good enough to make the Texans.

Infany someone made a comment that Roy Williams is only out for himself. Now I'm not sure about you but when I watch Roy place that's certainly not the case.

Who knows, maybe we have at least one good blitzing SS and nobody knows it because Fangio and Capers never blitz the freaking SS in the first place.
