Look at the size of the Texans watch parties... I don't blame them one bit. I love the Texans. I'm a diehard but... we just don't have as many devoted fans in Austin. I really believe that now. I also worked as an usher at the last two Longhorn games... Titan jerseys were abundant over there. I wear at least one of my Texans hats/jerseys/shirts/shorts virtually EVERYDAY. I haven't met a Texans fan in Austin outside of our gathering at Third Base. Not one. I've met tons of Titans and Young fans though. Our following just isn't consistent. It sucks but that's just how it is.

We wanted to prove a point with the K-EYE SUCKS campaign and we got off to a GREAT start but it failed miserably. Well... I think it did. I don't know... they're even having trouble setting up watch parties in Houston. Yankee had to offer up free swag in order to entice people to come. I don't know... too many people are fickle and I'm not talking about you guys. I'm talking about fans in general. We have to win in order to get our following noticed. It's tough but don't act surprised anymore when a station outside of Austin offers up something Titans related. They really do have more fans for them than us.

Looking back it's still amazing to me how a man like Bob McNair, who is no doubt a very smart & successful business man, could have so miscalculated
the popularity of VY and the value of having a local & regional athletic hero/
celebrity as a member of the Texans ? He even chose to give the team a nickname that certainly suggested he expected to attract fans beyond Houstons city limits. But it turned out that McNair really didn't have a clue ?

I get more and more steamed at the Texans FO as this unfolds. There has been a push for Titan fans by the local media unlike anything we've seen for the Texans. The Front Office has conceded this territory for whatever reason. Even when the Texans came to be the only thing you heard was local media laughing at the ineptness of the organization. My feeling is that Austinites that were willing to embrace a new NFL team in Houston were scared away by the constant ridicule spewed by the yocals on a daily basis. When we beat the Cowboys in our first game I though there would by station-sponsored candlelight gatherings at the tower for God's sakes.

I've said it before, it is cool to hate all things Houston if you are from Austin. It's been that way for at least the 24 years I've been here.

I guess I missed the whole part of how Vince is actualy playing on the field part about being a smart businessman. If VY is still playing like he is now more and more of the media will be all over it of course they will all say I had my doubts early on or I was right all a long but they will crash the honeymoon.

Nitro the PR department of the Texans has been a major FUBAR and the locations that they picked for the cheerleaders was a prime examble of it. As far as meeting other Texans fans besides Thirdbase, I hae met quite a few or have seen a lot of gear. Still the PR dept has a lot of work to undo the Casserly/Capers era and create a winning organization and a larger fan base. It takes more than 6 years because of the history of cowgils in this region (San Antonio is also included in this region).

With that said; to Hell with the local media here because they even disrespect their own players on the National championchip team in favor of just only one player.

Walk into any Academy, Walmart in Austin and there are more cowpuke and titan stuff than Texan gear.

I have to drive to College Station to get anything Texan. But my friend who lives in Houston has said he has seen more and more of the cowboys gear popping up in Houston, someday Houston Texan fans who live in Houston just might know how we lonely Texans in Austin feel.

Well the website has changed today, not sure why.
Anyway, this debate is too much energy for me, because I can go on and on forever into eternity, and I really just dont want to. Yes thats right, I am close to giving up on keeping the flame lit other than at my humble abode!
I am a Texans fan, always will be, thick and thin but the marketing and paraphenalia can be left to someone else!

Now, hold on a minute. The only marketing for the Texans watch parties that has happened is that which you see on this very message board. So, right there, the Servicable and Available Market (SAM) is small. I simply have to believe that, given our proximity to Houston, there is a latent fan base just dying to be marketed to.

I have no budget to reach them.

And apparently, ESPN Austin has plenty of budget to market to UT Homers. It makes me sick.

I mean, let's say I am a Cougar alum (I am not). Do you see the Houston radio stations marketing a Guy's Flight Out weekend to Philly to see K Kolb and the Igles?

It is moronic the way the Titans are blatantly whored out, and even more disturbing how they are lapped up by folks who either have no idea who Bud Adams is, no memory of what he did to destroy the Oilers franchise, or simply do not care.

Makes my blood boil. Not at you, Nitro. Just the friggin' Titan situation. dammit.

Its here in Houston too, SRO sports bar at 1960 and Cutten never shows the Texan game on the big screen. And this is Houston.

This is true, it is very hard to find any Texan gear around here. I searched high and low about a month ago. Even went to the Reebok store up at the Round Rock outlet mall. They had a couple of T-shirts, but had Titans/Steelers/Cowboys etc. I ask the counter guy and he says yeah, we finally sold out, we had stuff from last year finally sell out and we haven't ordered more....but we might since they are finally winning. This is around week 3 or so.

I was ticked off, this guy went on to try and explain the Texans to me, I told him to save his breath, if I am one of the few fans looking for apparel, chances are I follow the team.

The Sports Authority in the Galleria area has this big fancy wall display of Cowboys gear just as you walk in the door and a small rack of Texans gear. I'm boycotting that place from now on.

It's going to be the same way until we start winning. please see my "one table" speech. No question I got goosebumps during the carolina game when third base was packed. But once we start winning consistantly, our fan base will grow. until then, it's us die hards. keep the faith.

    go texans.

I would be at 3rd Base on a weekly basis but I can't. I said this before on this board when I got my anniversary, but I'm 15 months sober now and while I know just being there around all the suds won't break me, far from it, it's just aggravation I don't need. This is the one and only situation where I will say the Texans just aren't worth it. I'm at the mercy of all the "Texans" at KEYE who decide what games I see.

I can relate, although my hurdle was smoking, and with most places smoke free its getting easier to stay that way. Keep the faith!

    Let's face it.

Austin is a college town and will always be one. It is clear when fans can't get away from man crushes of their favorite son long enough to find pro football superior to college football.

Vince is a Titan (traitor) and not a very good qua-ter-ba-ck, yet the Vinni-ots climb in bed with Bud Adams every weekend to see him play. The numbers are astounding.

A professional sports town would never do that nor would they advertise that they were.
