    I've seen a lot of mocks that say we should draft AP or Joe Thomas, and I agree but let's be realistic, they will be LONG GONE at 8

    So going from most mocks who would you pick from the list below, which in my eyes is a realistic chance of who will actually be there instead of a wish list, and why you would draft him:

    1. OAK---JaMarcus Russell
    2. DET---Joe Thomas
    3. CLE---Adrian Peterson
    4. TB----Calvin Johnson
    5. ARI---Gaines Adams

    I think the top 5 is pretty solid no matter who you talk to, although the order of players drafted might change, these are the first 5 players to be drafted in 07

    This is where the draft starts to be tricky

    A lot of people have Jamaal Anderson going to the Skins but I think his stock has fallen since he didn't compete in the combine, so who the Skins take is anyones guess, but this is how I see it

    6. WAS---Alan Branch
    7. MIN----Ted Ginn Jr
    8. HOU---?

    LaRon Landry, Brady Quinn, Dwayne Jarrett, Leon Hall, Amobi Okoye, Marshawn Lynch or Levi Brown

    I think Leon Hall, Amobi Okoye, Marshawn Lynch and Levi Brown are all reaches at 8, and Jarrett to a point

    I think the most helpful and smart pick is LaRon Landry. He was solid at the combine running a 4.35 in the 40, looked insanely big and would introduce an enforcer at the next level or the D and would be an instant up-grade in both the running and passing defense.

    Teams that have big physical safties are known and feared, Reed, Dawkins, Williams, Talyor, Lynch, Sanders (look at what he added to the Colts D when he was in the line-up) and the list goes on

    At the number 8 pick in the draft I would pick LaRon Landry

    What would you do

    I try to dangle the pick to Carolina for Quinn, citing Miami's lack of a good QB. When they take it, I grab Marshawn Lynch with our first pick.

    If they don't....see my signature.

    I think Carolina wouldn't mind having a QB to sit behind Delhomme....I count on it and pray they are willing to move up. Otherwise, Miami's going to have a really nice QB. Quinn's getting a bad rap for no apparent reason.

    You pick Quinn. No doubt about it. I like his competetive spirit. I think he will be a solid Qb in the NFL.

    I too think Quinn would be the bpa at that situation. Amobi Okoye is another intriguing player that could help and fits their 'starting with the trenches' mindset.

    I think there is a decent chance arizona could select laron landry. I think I would go for him....at list I'd want us to take laron over the other guys...but i'm not sure if we would.

    Chris Houston possibly. And no, I didn't just fall in love with him after the combine. I was one of the first people to even mention his name on this MB.

    If we take Landry at 1.08 then {
    2.07 = J Staley OT;
    if not J Staley at 2.07 then {
    BPA with keen eye to CB, perhaps even trade down for picks;
    still need to address OT (Ryan Harris in the 3rd?);
    Ryan Harris at 3.09 removes any likelihood of drafting Kolb (I'm just saying);
    }
    }

    So, the 1st 3 rounds assuming no trades can resemble
    1/Landry FS, 2/TBD CB, 3/Ryan Harris OT
    OR
    1/Landry FS, 2/Staley OT, 3/BPA

    I'll just stop there. The permutations are beginning to make me dizzy. It would just be made so dang simpler if AD was there at 1.08 (doubt it sincerely).

    I like the way you think. I'm still tring to figgure out how you guys after the last five seasons, can go into '07 with Erick Winston and Salaam as your starters ? Mind boggeling.

    Exactly where are you getting this from ? I'd like to see where it is posted that any of these "reaches" are listed beyond a twelth round prospect . You gotta link there ? The only reach in your scenario is Lynch and Dewayne.

    Clearly after the combine everyone except Jarrett fits. Why you would draft a slow guy...a guy who is reported to be a terrible and unwilling blocker, for a WCO team who has at it's basis of therory, it's recievers in a WCO at least get in the way on the running plays, would be on the list ? Get off the names. Get off the big schools and the press clippings. There are plenty of options for the club if they want a WR. Faster, better blockers with much greater upside. I'd rather have the speedy cover corner or one of the DE's myself. With all the speed in this draft, I'd rather gamble on a cheaper FS prospect in the second or third round than to tie up cap dollars into a #8 saftey pick . Where were the guys big plays last year ? The numbers do not fit the production on the feild .

    If you pick Landry, what you're saying is that you're going to hit someone for OLT with the two and then come back high in day two and find a credible back up for Erick. And that my freind is far from a done deal untill they lace 'em up for the first game. The good news is that they'll set up the '08 draft with that pick. Barring moving up for the running back or a switch with the QB, throwing picks away on Schaub, they should have a nice set up for the '08 draft under the Landry scenario. But we ain't going to have a winning record in '07. And my book says will be looking for another OLT in '08...along with a QB. I can stand it as long as you can.

    I fix my o-line first thing. Levi is still my pick. That is the greatest hole. And has been for five seasons. Your gamble is that Landry, with his athletsim will be the play maker he wasn't last season. My gamble is that the poor forty from Levi will not be a significant upgrade over what is on the rooster now at OLT. I know for fact Brown can run block. You don't know for a fact that Laron can increase the turn over production at FS.

    You also left out Quinn in your scenario. You left Quinn out becase ?

    is there REALLY going to be somebody there at #8 we cant live without?

    I'm starting to think trading down is the way to go.

    What if we could pick up OLB Patrick Willis from Ole Miss and a mid 2nd round pick? OLB is a need for us for sure and another 2nd round player could be a starter for this team.

    Trade back.
    It saves cap space, and gets you two or three players.
    Take OL, FS, CB

    Willis and David Harris are MLBs. You play them there. I have no problem with moving Demeeco to will. I think with Harris' & Will's 40 times, the sideline to side line argument is pretty much out the window on both these guys as to why you couldn't move Meeco to the will. There are a lot on the board who still do. I like the trade down with someone scenario. Not sure you don't target the CB or the center if they do move down. This a very speedy draft judging form the combine. I'm not saying you go by the numbers alone and draft a Criss Henry with a day one pick...but there are a lot of speedy guys in this draft. Even at Line backer. The only player I truley covet is Brown. If they moved down with the intention of infusing tallent on the rooster, this class is it. This is the class, if luck was running with us, we would have gotten in the 2002 draft. Looks like they're clearing the decks for a move up to me....that spells All Day. Or as I like to call it David Carr II.

    I am sure when the QB in '07 is getting sacked all the time some of yall will come back and say that the Texans never take an OL in the first or second round ever.

    The Texans got lucky last year with the way Spencer dropped and now he is hurt and it is serious. There are not guarantees if, when or how he comes back. Years and years of complaining about Carr and half of the people here do not want the texans to take a QB?

    These two things make about as much sense if arizona were to draft Quinn this year versus something that they truly need, line help on both sides of the ball.

    The Vikes released Brad Johnson..would you be happy with a 2nd year QB who played AA ball in college and threw twice as many picks and TD's in 3 NFL starts as your only viable option? I think Quinn at 7 is far more likley then Ginn, who is almost a clone of Troy Williamson, whom the Vikes drafted a couple years ago and busted horribly.

    For the Texans, I would say that dependeing on our FA aquisitions, the board would look like this: Levi Brown, Okoye, Landry, or trade down. I think FS is one of the team's biggest needs, but its much harder to find a good tackle, particulalry a LT, then a FS, which means that all things being as they are now, I would take Brown at 8, or try to trade with Carolina or Buffalo.

    But on the inside Im still hoping for AP at 8, after the Reggie Bush pick last year, we of all teams should now that anything can happen at the draft...

    I'd look at Ugoh or Staley in the second.

    Thank you. It isn't pretty and it's hard to do. But this draft or next, and we've been saying the next draft five times running...they'll have to adress the lines. Untill we do that no matter who is at QB or Rb...we'll always be also rans.

    This draft is so speedy our odds at hitting upgrades at other critical positions is greater this year than in previous years. I think this is the year you bite the bullet and select a Marcus McNeil, Jamall Brown guy...and then BPA at the other needs. But Laron and the DT's and the "Rb move up" I can also see. Think untill we get the o-line fixed, we're just dogs on the pourch chasing our tails. Fun to watch it, but that action doesn't get you anywhere.

    I see the texans taking Levi, Brady, Laron, or Amobi.

    I would prefer Laron but with the situation our lines are in Brown or Okoye may be 'better' picks. I could also see them taking Quinn though...i'd rather the other 3.

    I choose laron. Texans choose okoye...we're both sad we passed levi too.
