Basically, is there any hope at all for me getting the Texans games this year, considering Matt Schaub is the new starter and I live in Charlottesville, Virginia? (Home of his college?)

Is there any precedent for that outside of Austin?

I work in the TV biz.

It's all about ratings from Nielsen, particularly in the big markets because you are talking about a lot money.

Typically this stuff is agreed upon before airing with adjustments later when the ratings come in. The lower the rating, more of a chance of underdelivery, which could mean a rebate.

The Redskins are pretty popular here (like the Cowboys in SA or Austin), but we don't have a true team in the entire state.

I guess since its the Texans, and not a popular team, its pretty unlikely.

It depends. Is he getting any hype out there?

A good indication would be to watch your local CBS affiliate during the local news and see if they talk about the Texans during sports.

I remember seeing Mississippi getting Packers games on the coverage maps last year. Seems like the L.A. area was getting Saints games also.

In that area, you will be hard pressed to get anything other than Ravens and Redskins games..

I believe the National side will trump to the local side.

There is big money on those National spots and whoever is on the hook for that delivery isn't going to take any chances regardless of hype.

But, probably the hype will mean the local market will watch the coverage, so it could be the "chicken or the egg" thing.

Bottom line, IMO it's the National side that will decide, with the local side being told what to air.
