If Vince Young declares his intentions to enter the 2006 as positive then how many of you guys think that Casserly will do the right thing? This is really going to bother me for the next several months & possibly into the future plans of the Texans as well if he continues to say that David Carr is our QB. Of course he does because he is on the clock (since he drafted him #1 overall in 2002) to say anything else would be to admit he made a mistake- not gonna happen.

If this happens this will dwarf last years Derrick Johnson talk, if the Texans don't get this right and take Vince Young (if available) how many fans are going to style loyal to this franchise? I hope that McNair realizes this fact & has the foresight to nip this in the bud and release both Carr & Casserly :pigfly:

I think Vince is awesome but I really believe this will be a non-issue come draft time because I think he's going to stay in school and win that Heisman next year.

the only reason he was not coming out is that his advisors mis-informed him that he would not be a top 5 pick. clearly now he is not only a top 5 pick but the #1 overall prospect should he come out :)

I agree that it is still early and we have not received a yes or no from VY. Having said that, (watching VY win against the 3rd greatest college football team of all time, according to espn poll, was awesome) there is no way they pass on best talent available and do not draft young-

this also concerns me with Casserly still running operations, one of the questions he will surely ask potential head coaching candidates is "how do you feel about coaching David Carr?" "is there a QB in College that you would want to develop more?"

if they answear "I believe that I can help Carr perform better and become a complete NFL QB" rather than "give me Vince Young and we'll (the Texans) be in the playoffs in two years". Casserly is going to think the Texans can be in the playoffs in two years with Carr not Young. so not only do we lose Vince Young we lose the best coaching candidate at the same time :brickwall

It could be interesting. After watching Bush in a few games, I have been voting to take Bush and not trade the pick.

BUT - after this game - I don't know if Bush is the pick.

Lienert didn't do any damage to his rep.
Bush was solid, but it looked like Carroll was afraid to send him up the middle.
    Vince became superman.

So, if we traded with Tennessee - for a 2nd and 3rd this year(or a 2nd and 4th and a 2nd next year) - we could still end up with Bush!

#1 Tenn - Vince - Take their heir to McNair
#2 NO - Leinert - They have a RB and NEED a qb so they will pass on Bush.
    #3 Hou - Bush

BUT -even if someone threw a curveball and either Leinert or Young dropped - then we just deal down again.
    #3 for
    #4 and a 3rd and 4th
    or
    #9 and RoyWilliams
    or
    . . . . too many options to list.

if we traded the #1 overall pick (rights to draft Vince Young) to the possums we would have more than a problem that would be a catasrophe of gigantic proportions, so lets dispel that  now.

PEOPLE!! Casserly already said he is giving him the 8mill and that he thinks Carr was just not Coached Properly. And I agree.I feel like he is still a good QB and yes he has made mistakes and will learn. So casserly already said it WE ARE NOT TAKING A QB.

Yea that's true. Honestly with all the coverage of last night's game I've not heard Vince say anything about what he wants or plans to do. He seems like a real mature young man. I'm sure he'll consider all that's involved, talk to his parents and Coach Brown and make the right decision. My gut feeling says he'll stay in school but I don't have a thing to base that on....

Depends on which "right thing" you want Casserly to do. As of right now we've got three major groups of posters on this board.

We've got the "Trade the Pick" (TTP) crowd and we've got the "Pick Reggie Bush" (PRB) crowd. They've been fighting for weeks. Now they're joined by the "Pick Vince Young" (PVY) crowd. Who knows how it will turn out? Clearly a bunch of posters aren't going to be happy no matter what Casserly does.

Ummm...one game rarely changes the minds of NFL scouts. The don't think on an emotional level like fans do.

I see him go at #3 at the absolute Highest and would not be shocked if he slipped out of the top 5.

PS: I love Vince Young but I have seen this senario way too may times. He is a great talent but he is raw and he is a high risk, high reward pick. He has all the making of a legend but has the gleam of a being a huge bust.

If he stays at Texas one more year he will win the Heisman and he will be the #1 overall pick. No Doubt in my mind.

This will be the one and only chance Vince Young has of playing for his hometown team. There is no way the Texans will be in a position to draft this high next year. Vince could stay for one more year with UT, but he will also be making himself vulnerable to be drafted by a garbage team in some small market town with cold weather. He could be drafted by the Vikings, Bills, Ravens, etc. Who wants to play for these teams for their entire career knowing they can play at home?

Let's all make a collective agreement to never use the title, "Houston, We have a Problem" ever again.

I think this has been the title for every single newspaper article that talks about things not going right for a Houston team.

For the love of god, please make it stop.

    Two problems if he stays:
    1) NFL CBA - I heard they were changing the system so that rookies (namely high draft picks) would be limited on years/salary. So, a 3rd or even a 5th pick this year may be better off than the 1st next year.
    2) INJURY - HE runs a lot. One bad hit and he is done - or at least makes a lot less money. Now, wouldn't that suck - to be a stockbroker or something like that driving a Camry or similar when you could have had a huge signing bonus plus mercedes plus house plus . . plus. . . plus . . .

Picks 1,2 & 3 are not going to salvage this team or right the ship. Take any one of these players and they will suffer the same fate as Carr. Carr is a very talented QB and unfortunately can only do so much "WHEN YOU ARE RUNNING FOR YOUR LIFE ON EVERY FRIGGIN PASSING DOWN"!!!! He goes back to pass it's either go to primary WR if time permits or to the dump off receiver. There is no time for the 2 or 3 check off receivers. You put Young or Lienert behind that line and WHAT? We're off to the playoffs? Smelling salts please, WALT "FRICKEN" DISNEY bumped his head. Oh my bad, what your saying is we will also fix the O-line. Well, shouldn't Carr be given the same opportunity to play behind an improved O-line? No matter, we are looking at a 2 year restoration, improve the O-line and then go back and judge Carr.
Heck, put Bush behind that line and he'll be able to join DD on the sideline by Week 8 for a robust game of ROCK'M SOCK'M ROBOTS.

Honestly beerlover you have seemed to waffle a bit big dogg. If VY does come out we still trade the pick, primarily to someone other than Tenn would be great, but never trust Casserly. I think Tennesse would sit at three and say out of the 3 top guys we dont care who falls to us we will take them or trade down also. NO is likely going to stay put, because well no one wants to play for them. If NY or another team does trade up for VY I send him packing and give him a texans jacket to sport in his new city. I honestly doubt he comes out this year unless there are more rumblings about the CBA agreement, but if not he could only further solidify his stance as the number 1 pick. I would think he comes out this year if the Texans say we will take him, if not he goes back to his beloved Austin and comes out next year and makes 5M more. My bad needed to edit this post because I say Tennessee is the third pick and implied sending him there instead of NY Jets. Sorry people I would never SELLOUT unless TENNESSEE OFFERED A MONSTER DEAL.

The Jets own the #4 pick. We trade and it looks like this:
    1. NYJ (F/ HT)
    2. NOS
    3. TT
    4. HT (F/ NYJ) + (NYJ - ROUND 2 & 3 PICKS)

The way the picks would fall:
    1. NYJ Young- Will come out if Houston trades the pick. NY, offers 1st pick
money plus huge endorsement money. NY fans would demand
    this trade if made available.

    2. NOS Lienert- Get the QB they wanted from the beginning.

3.TENN Bush- They possibly get the guy they wanted or trade out. Bush
will suffer only because the first two teams need a QB.

    4. TEX - Be smart with this pick (Preference is Hawk) or trade down and
    stock pile more picks.

TexFan i like your outlook, but I think for a franchise QB the asking price is 1st, 2nd, 5th, and next year's 1st, 3rd. We would then send them our 1st and 6th and maybe even Marcus Coleman back(I can dream cant I). This would likely be how the trade worked or if they asked for a player from our team that we could afford to send I would. Hell they are in a cap situation so maybe we unload P-burnt on them for a 3rd or something like that.
