Got two tix for the 49ers game on the 18th, for my birthday.
Never been to a preseason game...not sure what to expect.

Been to a few reg season games and even the Bengals playoff game last year.

    Do people still tailgate?
It was really awesome for my son & I to get to meet a lot of you guys last season--hoping to hang out a little more.

What's the feel of the game like?
Obviously I've seen preseason games, but what should I expect? Rockin' atmosphere...more subdued...etc.

Gonna be the son (11) and I again.
Do folks still get all decked out--ie: facepaint, etc.?

Just hoping you guys would fill me in on what to expect on the 18th.

    Thanks.
Hope to see some of y'all there.

Basically, it will be pretty lame.

Yes, the tailgaters will be there, but in FAR fewer numbers. Only the hardcore. The rest can't or won't take off work early on a Thursday for a preseason game. Silver Lining: good time to mingle with the hardcore tailgaters, including the folks who actually do a lot of the work so their friends can have fun on game day.

Stadium will be half full at best. Even among those in their seats, half will barely be following the game. At a regular season game, I'm hanging on the edge of my seat on every play. In preseason, I'm more likely to be talking to my friends and following the game with mild interest. Silver Lining: If you want to move around and check out the view from different sections of the stadium, this is your chance.

Most will leave early, including myself. I've never missed a regular season kickoff and I've never left my seat before the final whistle, but watching four quarters of preseason football is a joke. The next day is a work day for most, so lots of folks will be leaving early.

This is also the 4th preseason game, where the starters are likely to get very little playing time. Silver Lining: no traffic.

Also, Texas A&M has a real game that night so most fans of college football will care a lot more about that game than a Texans preseason game. I'd rather watch both games in the parking lot with free beer than sit in my seats and watch preseason with $8.00 beer.

Compared to the Bengals playoff game? Night and day.

Wait. Scratch that. Just realized 49ers is Saturday game, not Thursday.

Saturday preseason tailgating will be pretty decent.

Game will still be pretty lame though.

Not many regulars in my section during the last few years for preseason games. So it doesn't have the same feel.
