I would target the following in no specific order:

    1. CB: Josh Wilson-Baltimore/Carlos Rogers-Washington Redskins

    2. DE: Shaun Ellis -Jets

    3. DT: Brandon Mebane, Seahawks

    4. FS: O.J. Atogwe, Rams

    5. Adam Podlesh, P, Jaguars.

Sign 1/5 and we are much better positioned going into next year.

I'm really liking Ike Taylor and Johnathan Joseph. Thoughts, opinions?

I would much prefer Joseph over Taylor, and maybe Grimes also.

Why no like Ike? I like Grimes as well. Is it that you don't like Taylor's game or feel that Joseph and Grimes are more obtainable? (cheaper)

I think that Joseph and Grimes are both better.

Taylor may die of shock when he learns how much longer he'll be expected to lock on to a receiver than he did in Pittsburgh... not to mention, he is accustomed to slightly better support from the safety position. The shock could kill him when he sees Dominique Barber and Troy Nolan patrolling the secondary instead of Polamalu and Clark.

Grimes is the dark horse I really want. He might not be the biggest corner but that guy can cover! Every time I watched him play, he was getting picks or making plays on the ball

Eric Weddle, S, Chargers. Age: 26.
Eric Weddle is due for a massive contract. Excluding Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu, Weddle might be the best safety in the NFL (though Nick Collins may have something to say about that).

Why are we not interested in this guy?

We are, well a few of us anyway. A larger number of people are more entranced with the big name that Atogwe brings

Weddle is a better player. However, Atogwe is still better than what we currently have and may be more attainable. I would rather sign Atogwe and 1 solid CB than just Weddle.

Atogwe was cut and is available now. The chargers are expected by many to franchise Weedle. If Weedle is available he is hands down the best safety which will be available this offseason...including the draft. I dont know if he's the best value though. He is about to get paid either way.

Cb's jonathan joseph and josh wilson are 1a and 1b on my wish list. i've never been impressed with ike taylor though he would be an upgrade. comming off a superbowl appearance he's going to expect to be paid more then he's worth i'd guess though.

The way I see it, this would be the year for the Texans to make that big Free Agent splash. There are quite a few areas of need that will be available. There are very good CBs and very good Safties out there, even a few good DTs.

IMO this is why you didn't spend the big money before - to save for an offseason inwhich there were many players to choose from that would bolster and improve your roster.

Don't give me the excuse that we build through the draft. You already did that:

OL - Two good tackles you got in the draft

RB - One you didn't get in the draft, one you did get in the draft and we are waiting for him to heal. Wanna build through the draft this year? Maybe you improve the RB depth by going RB in the draft again, after cutting Slaton.

QB - You could draft a QB to groom

WR - You drafted the best in the league, and you already drafted a playmaker in Jacoby. You could still "build" through the draft with another pick here.

DL - You drafted two and one has made the Pro Bowl twice. Seems like we need an immdeiate impact player here and that immediate impact needs to come from the DT or NT. Need to spend money vs. trying to develop a player.

LB - Switching over to a defense where the LB play is very important. On a team with an effective offense, you can't waist time developing a drafted player here. Your LBs need to be bad ass yesterday. We've built through the draft with two pretty good ones in Demeco and Cushing. Because of where we pick in round one you could get your OLB in the draft, but you could spend minimum cash for a FA here too.

Secondary - The biggest need on the team with the most available FAs. You need to spend money here.

My point is, we've already built a team that can win through the draft. Now's the time to put players around that team we built.

Not sure what you mean by "We", but considering that any interest expressed in Weddle could very possibly result in tampering penalties for the NFL franchise that expressed that interest, what exactly would you like to see?

Weddle's not much different than Pollard, imo. Likes to hit in the box, but can't cover very well. Well, maybe a little better than Pollard but not worth the cash he's going to be asking.

I know that is the book on him. Correct me if I'm wrong, though... wasn't Eric Weddle a CB in college. As a matter of a fact, I'm almost positive that he was a CB and that when they played Georgia Tech, he totally shutdown Calvin Johnson, while shadowing him all over the field.

Perhaps injuries have slowed him down or perhaps he's much better in coverage than he's getting credit for being?

He played all of them. Left CB, right CB, Safety and a lot of nickel.

Agreed. I don't know much about Mebane, but the other guys on your list are guys I think help us immediately.

I was a Carlos Rogers fan back during the draft. I think Atogwe ends up re-signing with the Rams. And I wonder how much longer we can expect Turk to last here without him going shanksville on us--Though I think it's weird we're discussing a free agent punter. LOL.

Where are you getting this assesment? Weddle is the polar opposite of Pollard. Weddle is what Pollard wants to be when he grows up.
