The Texans have been a 3-4 team since their inception, but they've never had four good linebackers to rub together. New coordinator Richard Smith is switching to the 4-3; now, he just needs to find three lukewarm bodies. Marlon Greenwood made 112 tackles last year, but his average play occurred 6.8 yards downfield. Free agent Sam Cowart isn't toast yet, but the butter is on the counter. Kailee Wong, Shantee Orr, and rookie DeMeco Ryans will battle for the Sam position. Many of the bench players are 3-4 specialists who will get cut if they can't fit the new scheme.

Geez, where do they get that stat? I've never seen that before (6.8 yards downfield). Crazy technology.

    In my mind.
They keep running databases based on the play-by-play logs released from the NFL and ESPN

    Example
    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/playbyplay/NFL_20051009_NE@ATL

    1-10-NE18 (8:56) C.Dillon right tackle to NE 22 for 4 yards (K.Brooking).
    1-10-ATL13 (5:38) C.Dillon left end pushed ob at ATL 6 for 7 yards (K.Brooking).

There Brooking would have a 5.5 yard stat to go along with his 2 tackles.

However I am suspect as to what he is calling "game film". Maybe he has a contract with the NFL for game film or most likely he has 32 hard drives buzzing on NFL Sunday Tickets in three different states.

Yep if you're not looking over the NFL playbook after the games on sunday, your missing a lot of information. IF we get over six wins, a large part of that will be Richard Smith's handy work. How he manages the linebackers, will be a very big part of any improvement. The line's a beast this year no doubt. But if you're shooting in lineman, penetrating, better have some tackeling machines with wheels behind them. Lot of people are down on our young safties. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if one doesn't lead the team in tackles this season. JMHO. And If everyone...is saying something...just brace yourseves is all I'm saying. Will only goes so far in making up for a lack of tallent. Loosing Ranier hurt a lot, I'm thinking. The kids willl be tested those first six.
