Open locker room today for rookie camp. Rookies don't get real lockers until they make the roster. Not even the first overall pick. #Texans
Veteran lockers have numbers but no names. Also have "Always put the team first" inside each one. #Texans
"Coach O'Brien knows what's he's doing. The meetings we've had have been intense," new #Texans TE CJ Fiedorowicz
12:17 PM - 16 May 2014
Also QB Tom Savage has to share a locker with another rookie right now. #Texans
Texans NT Louis Nix III: "I'm nobody. I haven't made a tackle. At this point it's Louis Nix, the guy nobody knows. He's trying 2make a squad"
12:32 PM - 16 May 2014
NT Louis Nix III:"We got these bad lockers(4rookies).Once I get on this wall (regular lockers), if I get a chance 2play it might be surreal"
OLB Jadeveon Clowney on message to rookies from Texans coaching staff: "Keep your mouth shut & learn. We don't know what we think we know."
Seeing Jadeveon Clowney move is a sight to see. He ran down Alfred Blue on a swing pass where Blue had a 5 yard head start. #Texans
O'Brien reiterated how much respect he has for Andre and what he has done in this city, Houston. #abc13 #Texans

How did they all feel, coming into their first rookie camp, playing with undrafted rookies and tryout players?
Just like their coach expected them to feel.
"We’re behind," said Jadeveon Clowney, the first overall pick in last week's draft. "We came in behind and the other guys got the upper hand on us, so really we have to learn the playbook. ... Keep your mouth shut and learn. We don’t know what we think we know, basically. We got a lot of vets. Hats off to them guys, they’ve been there. We have to learn from them and take it all in."
The rookies were squashed into the middle of the locker room, occupying temporary blue metal lockers away from the walls where veterans get to be. Some, like fourth-round quarterback Tom Savage, have to share a locker.
It's a reminder that they have to earn their way onto the team. They will start that process in a few minutes during their first practice of rookie minicamp.
Defensive tackle Louis Nix III won't even say it's set in stone that he's been drafted onto an NFL team yet.

ILB Max Bullough looks like he shed weight from college. Moving much better than his college film. Looks the part. #Texans

It's easy to see why Tom Savage was well liked by the #Texans. Live arm. Velocity is unmatched by any QB on the roster.

Savage's most impressive throws were from far hash across the field to receivers in stride outside the numbers. #Texans

What the heck is going on in the upper right corner of this picture? Is that an UFA going all out in a fumble drill? I like his chances of making the team.
There are no individuals on O'Brien's team.Someone asked OB what he thought about Clowney today.
OB said: "I thought the group looked pretty good"
They asked again, what about Clowney?
OB: "I thought the group looked good"
My favorite quote so far....
Texans NT Louis Nix III: "I'm nobody. I haven't made a tackle. At this point it's Louis Nix, the guy nobody knows. He's trying 2make a squad"

Damned good attitude.

Oh man, people raged about Kubiak being vague with his answers. Their head must be about to explode when BO'B won't give an answer at all.
Additional beef is evident on nu #Texans roster. You could watch movies on the back of em. IMAX.
Don't like camp hype stuff but Tom Savage's arm is very live. Heavy ball, gets on WRs in a hurry. Windy day didn't seem to matter at all.
Favorite part of #Texans rookie mini-camp day 1 was when JJ Watt came sneaking out the bubble & just watched the rookies from the shadows.
Lastly, one more guy that I mentioned yesterday & looked natural today. OLB Jason Ankrah. Should be quality depth at the OLB spot.
3 prospects that will have every opportunity to be great. Clowney- attention from Vrabel. Savage - attn from O'Brien. Nix-attn from Crennel
JD Clowney engulfs the field w/ every step, so as he develops in coverage, he'll eat up green in strides. Vrabel working him
Don't focus on the part where Clowney's coverage isn't pretty, focus on the beginning stages. Mike Vrabel is in his ear w/ tips every rep.
Odd seeing JD Clowney in a #Texans jersey that wasn't photo shopped on. He's in the beginning stages of learning to cover, it's not pretty.
Max Bullough looks the part. I can't wait to see how his camp progress goes. When they start hitting, he should shine. Looks like an NFL ILB
Watching the focus the #Texans put on developing & studying every mannerism that Savage makes, I'd be surprised if they took reps away.
I was asked yesterday if I thought the #Texans may bring in another arm to rookie mini-camp, after watching today, I've got my answer...
Travis Labhart is precise & catches everything. Even he had to slightly double catch a ball coming off of Savage's arm. #Texans
(Tryout) S Nick Addison seemed to be built more like a receiver on tape & seeing him in person didn't change my opinion on that. #Texans
WR Anthony McClung has a quick ability to elevate & high point, similar to what I saw out of CB AJ Bouye last year.
Tyrone Ezell came off the snap with power as well. (Tryout) Julius Warmsley intrigued me, but I didn't get on him until late.
Austin Brown impressed me more in drills than any other player today.
Two guys that impressed on tape, didn't disappoint in drills. Austin Brown & Tyrone Ezell. Austin Brown is a fluid 295 lbs but pops as well
Keith Browner put on a textbook workout on how to explode low & hit with pop. Kollar's pet to show the rookies how it's done.
Nix routinely came out of his stance too high & attacked pads w/ hands too high. He was using all hip & upper body as well, not butt down.
Watching Bill Kollar w/ the 5 techs & NTs was my favorite part of the day. Louis Nix has a lot of work to do on technique. #Texans
Ballentine(6'3) & (tryout S) Theo Alexander(6'4) made for some huge safeties.
The play of the day came when Tom Savage threw a deep "go" route to (tryout) WR Lacoltan Bester. Ball dropped in to beat Andre Hal. #Texans
Tom Savage impressed me w/ out route anticipation to WRs he hasn't thrown to before. #Texans
Bill O'Brien strikes me as a guy who's not only intelligent, but demands perfection, from a veteran leader all the way down to a tryout kid.
I thought Tom Savage had a very natural & authoritative cadence, until Bill O'Brien stepped under center & gave a call. Carries the line.
Bill O'Brien is definitely taking a hands-on approach with Savage. Literally standing over the ball to watch the C-QB exchange & footwork.
WRs are having to adjust to the velocity of Tom Savage's ball. Lots of double catches today. Ball cut thru a windy day with ease in Houston.
Marcus is very confident in his technique, but opened up outside hip & allowed Anthony McClung to beat him back inside. #Texans
Marcus Williams (#40) is a lot of fun to watch in person. Footwork + hips = perfection. Just like on game film, he opened up too soon, thou.
Couple guys stood out when they walked on the field, due to physical stature. Obviously, Clowney, CJ Fiedorowicz & Bryan Witzmann.
Here's a little info on what I saw at Day 1 of the #Texans mini-camp. Remember, it's just day 1, nerves involved, learning, etc.
Extended Cut: LB Jadeveon Clowney
Apparently he's trying to learn the playbook.
You can tell he just wants to get out there and play, and not answer all these questions.
Omg that was driving me crazy. That was his answer to every question

Yep. Compared to O'Brien, Kubiak blabbed like Edward SnowdenOh man, people raged about Kubiak being vague with his answers. Their head must be about to explode when BO'B won't give an answer at all.
what is the qb situation?
does everybody start off on equal terms with obrien or is somebody ahead at the depth chart already?
I like it
You know, in OB's world there would be a place for "Letterman Jackets" but it wouldn't be from some guy on the roster who "had an idea". It would be from the guys in charge and you would get one when you got put in whatever will one day pass for the Texans "Ring of Honor". If they happened today under this regime it would be something you got on your way out the door after you earned it.
That was kind of what was wrong I think under Kubiak's rule. The players kind of did what they wanted and the coaches and front office seemed to stand back and admire them instead of running the show. Inmates ran the asylum so to speak. That's over.
That's my biggest question. I think BoB needs to name a starter, but casually slip in that the job is up for grabs
watching rookies against rookies is fun but against vets is what I want to hear about. Excited about Savage but I also want to see Fitz and Keenum before crowning King Savage.
I disagree. If you name a starter then start undermining that person that doesn't serve anyone.
OB's whole thing seems to be the collective. Naming a starter doesn't serve that.
Oh man, people raged about Kubiak being vague with his answers. Their head must be about to explode when BO'B won't give an answer at all.
Ain't it cool?
(I heard the OB comments, and to me it sounds like Andre will be here...JMO)

Just embrace the truth
If anything, it's this kind of stuff that would upset me, if I were Andre. Andre is 12 years in & don't need no college coach giving him the "Do it for the Gipper" speech.
I didnt get the impression that ob was trying to sweet talk him or gas him up with a rally speech.
I'm not talking about anything OB said to Andre specifically. I'm talking about this whole culture thing that he's bringing. No names, earn your number, competition at every spot, give it the ol college try...
Totally opposite from Kubiak's "handle yourself like a pro" club med training camp.
Regardless which may be what the team needs now, some are going to prefer one over the other. Like I said, Andre's been here 12 years. I have to imagine some of this feels like starting all over.
Starting over is good for the soul. When I was in my late 40s, I went to night classes and got my Windows NT certification (yes, that's windows NT..LOL ) and got a new position in my company. I don't want to lose AJ, but the new coaching staff is bringing the right philosophy to this team IMO.

Well, I'd say that Kubiak's "handle yourself like a pro" approach actually worked fine for Andre. He is a pro and has always taken care of his business like one when it came to football so it must suck for him to have to be on a team that's got to go back to this kind of approach in order to get everyone on the same page.
