I read a forum a little earlier saying that Eric Winston has been getting reps with the first team since Zach Weigert has had some difficulty with a knee...I was only wondering what the possibility is for Winston to come out the starting Right Tackle to open the Season....

Im very interested in how Winston has looked as a starter in training camp. Especially since he has to go against Mario when he's on the first team

It's even possible we have two rookie bookend tackles on the O-line this year.
Spencer at LT and Winston at RT. Hopefully Coach Sherman will do a stellar job of coaching this year.

Based on what I have been hearing/reading, I would say it's a long shot. We will know more as the pre-season games unfold. Right now, Spencer is running neck and neck with Wand, and coming on. The early word is he is about to leave Wand in the dust. However, on the other side, I think Winston will work his way in eventually, by opening day 2007. I think it's too much to ask for this opening day, but I won't rule it out either.

I still cant believe the two dropped to the third round. Talk about some steals.

I think the best thing for our line would be to have Wiegert starting at RT for the first half of our schedule. The first half is brutal and will be even harder with 2 rookie tackles on the line. If Winston overtakes him through the 2nd half of the schedule that would be the best case for our line imo

Spencer was expected to drop to the 3rd round, but Winston was supposed to go a bit higher, early to late 2nd round. Regardless, Great for the Texans, it could not have worked out better, after the 1st pick massacre. (I'm referring to how the fans reacted) If there would not have been a successful FA period and good 2-7 round picks, this city may have gone nuts and tried to find Cassserly, if ya know what I mean. BUT, that's all done now and thank God for Mario and his humble personality being in town, rather than the inflated head of Reginald Bush! Don't get me wrong, I would love to see his talents in a Texans uniform, but for the sake of the locker room and getting this franchise back in the winning frame of mind, Mario was the best pick we could have made!:hunter: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

We don't need that thorn in our side again. No more musical Lineman!

    Steals of the draft.

    #33 pick Demeco Ryans
    #65 pick Charles Spencer
    #66 pick Eric Winston
First selection of the fifth round ERIC MOULDS!!!
First selection of the seventh round KEVIN WALTERS

Those are the steals of the draft IMO, I wish I could count mario but we had the first pick, but I was ecstatic that we didn't take R***** B***.

Disclaimer: Edited to prevent further off-topicness.

Back on topic. I don't think Winston is the starting RT of choice for our coaches. I think they would like him to develope more, they are just resting Wiegart so they don't aggrivate his injury.

Doesn't it feel better to be talking about these guys this year when last year we were talking about Victor Riley?

They will play Wiegert sparingly in the preseason and you will get to see a lot of Winston. Winston has come along a teeny bit slower than Spencer but Spencer has surprised nearly everyone with his grasp and nastiness. They are both rooks and will need time but I think it's safe to say they will be our bookend tackles at some point in the not too distant future. As long as Wiegert can stay on the field, he will start.

I agree. Weigert already has experience playing both of those positions and I don't think it would bother him too much to move back and forth. I'd really like to see Winston stay at RT if that is where he will play in the future.

I don't think either rookie will start in week 1, but I think both will be starting by season's end.
