    Houston Texas baby!
Both Capers and Casterly need to forget about football and just go back to their old jobs. My trash hasn't been picked up on time since they left.

If you are going to nab someone from Miami it should be Hudson Houck, architect of the '90's Cowboys line and then the transformation of the Chargers line.

    Forgot he went there...

I guess talent issues were the reason he couldn't do a turnaround on that line like he did with the Chargers?

Insert Darth Vaderesque "NooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo!!!!!" cry here.

If for no other reason than I can't stand mouth-breathers. Makes you look like a retarded chimp. Although, a retarded chimp may have gotten better results out of the Texans those first few years.

    CUTSCENE TO DREAMSEQUENCE...............

Bobo the retarded chimp head coach of the Houston Texans gesticulates angrily at the field
Bobo's handler: "What is it Bobo? Pull Carr out and put Sage in?"
    Bobo nods vigorously.
Bobo's handler: "That's not going to make Charlie too happy, Bobo."
    Bobo flings his poo.

    END CUTSCENE

I can't help but think that he's still a better DC than Richard Smith.

He's another Norv Turner. A guy that's a great coordinator, but a sorry Head Coach.

I'd like to see Rob Ryan instead anyway.

Regardless of the fact that Capers' defense failed to stop anyone spare the mighty offensive powerhouse that was the Baltimore Ravens? Honestly, except for the fact that Capers runs a 3-4, I see little difference between him and Richard Smith. Both predictable and soft.

At least Capers has a resume. He was a solid DC in Pittsburgh, Carolina and Jacksonville.

I think his mistake in Houston was letting Fangio run the defense.

Dom Capers will not return to Houston to be any kind of coordinator. At least I don't believe that will happen.

If it did though he'd be a step up from Richard Smith.

The keyword is was. It's hard to tell what exactly went wrong in Houston's first 4 years because seemingly everything did. However, whether it was Fangio's or Capers' doing, the defense was pitiful. Capers could have done something about it and choose not to.

That's the real gist of it. We KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that Dom Capers COULD implement and run a great defense. He's done it and he's done it more than once. That he either didn't understand that he needed to get involved or made the (bad) decision not to is what got him fired and what he'll have to live down if he's to continue coaching at this level and above a simple position coach spot.

Two years and done in Miami doesn't help either. If he'd followed up his run in Houston with a defensive coordinator job somewhere and whipped them into a good defense then I think his four years in Houston would have received an asterisk (for "expansion team doomed to failure") and been forgiven. From a career perspective the last thing he needed was to go to Miami and be kicked to the curb with the rest of the staff and labeled part of the problem.

no doubt. snatching up Houck would be a coup. I wouldn't totally be against Capers coming back to Houston to be DC. I know it sounds crazy but he is a farrrr superior DC to Richard Smith. Capers was never the problem. He was just the fall guy for Casserley's stupid moves and picks. As a DC, Capers is one of the better minds in the game.
