Looking back you've gotta wonder where this team would be had we picked up Brees instead of extending Carr and trading draft picks for Schaub. Schaub is obviously doing very well but the Saints were essentially at the same level as us after the 05 season and Brees no doubt accelerated their turnaround.
In addition to the two 2nd round picks we would keep in 07/08 we would also be picking 8th instead of 10th. We would have the ammunition to move up and take Adrian Peterson, who the Vikings took at # 7 in 07 which would've given us a great "triplet" package on offense (in addition to the other capable targets...looking at you OD and KW).
Its crazy how one move can change the face of a franchise. Another example is, where would the Colts be had they taken Ryan Leaf instead of Peyton Manning? They certainly wouldn't be 15-1 all time against us!!!
Then Breesus/Rivers would've gone 15-1 against us? (in theory)
Chargers aren't in our division.
In your scenario, Leaf goes to the Colts, the Colts linger in mediocrity while the Chargers prosper in a massive role reversal... then the Colts draft some QB out of Purdue along with this RB from TCU and then everyone gets destroyed again.
