    Texans | Cochran signed
    Fri, 2 Jun 2006 14:05:27 -0700

The Houston Texans have signed free agent DL Earl Cochran (Vikings) to a two-year contract with base salaries of $275,000 (2006) and $350,000 (2007).

Undrafted free agent originally. 2 years with Green Bay then 1 with the Vikings. DE 6' 5" 284lbs--zero career tackles. Camp fodder.

Well, looks like we are working on that shortage of DL thing.

If by shortage you mean we can now have a 4th team defense then yea. :sarcasm:

Malone is more of a tackle. I have noticed that they are thin on ends for the strong side. Kalu is more of a weak side guy. When he was signed, it looks like they were unsure of Peek and Babin being able to play end. I wonder if Kalu is going to make the team. Now the Weaver is playing so much tackle, Mario needs a backup. But yeah chances are this is just a training camp body.

If something happens to Mario then they will likely bump Weaver back to SDE and have Payne and Robaire as the DTs.

He's the only DT I know that almost blocked a punt. He got a roughing the kicker called, but it sure was...cool.

Yeah but, it is still good to have options so Mario could get a breather with out Weaver leaving the tackle spot, if the dude makes the team

for what it's worth, Len Pasquarelli had Cochrane listed as a solid free agent out of NFL Europe:

    • DE Earl Cochrane (Amsterdam): Has NFL-caliber size (6-5, 285), has been in three NFL training camps and spent the 2003 season on the Green Bay injured reserve list. From Alabama State, he was in the 2003 NFL supplemental draft, has some upfield quickness and posted 51 tackles and five sacks this spring.
