    Pure Speculation

The latest rumor I have heard from someone close to the organization is that DD is likely to be cut as the Texans are pursuing Mike Anderson. According to the source the signing of Anderson also means the end of Jonathan Wells as a Texan unless he does not receive a higher offer on the FA market (as is expected). The team believes they can sign Anderson for a lower rate than what DD is currently costing the team, and obviously Kubiak knows that Anderson can do in his scheme. I am hearing Kubiak will call Anderson today/tomorrow at 12:00 a.m. at the start of the FA period.

There is also some interest in Trevor Pryce, but this has not been formerly discussed.

    This makes absolutley no sense!!!:brickwall
Why would we release a young up-and-coming runningback for one that is 32 years old and probably has a couple of good years left in him. If kubiak wants to save money, they need to get rid of the dead weight....T.Wade,G.Walker

The reasoning behind the deal is that the Texans are leaning towards drafting Reggie Bush (however, still considering Mario Williams). Mike Anderson is a bigger back that would be a classic complement to Bush. The offense would be similar to Denver's Anderson and Tatum Bell duo. Additionally, Anderson's contract would be heavily insentive oriented so as to save the club money in the future. DD is owed a huge amount of money, if the team is going to draft Bush, cutting DD and signing Anderson to an insentive ladden contract makes since.

Regarding the original premis of the thread...that would make zero sense IMO. Take a cap hit, get rid of a solid young back and bring in a guy that's 32.

how about signing Anderson to use with Davis and Morency, then drafting VY.

sounds like a pretty sweet idea to me.

The source must be Mike & Mike from espn .... They were saying this morning that DD and a multitude of other high profile players thru-out the NFL could be cut .... but thats just speculation on their part .

The Texans are already $4 Million under the supposed cap if no new CBA is reached . DD isnt going to be cut .... forget it . Anderson May well be brought in but that would mean that the Texans probably WOULDNT be taking Bush and have some alternative plan for the draft .... D-Brick , V.Davis , V.Young , AJ.Hawk or M.Williams in some kind of trade down package.

Here's a list of the Texans players that ESPN said were possible cuts .....Their salary and how they would affect the cap. Players in BOLD would negatively affect the cap

    Player.....................salary.......... cap hit.
    Mark Bruener ........ $1,008,333.....$1,008,332 Savings
    Marcus Coleman..... $3,118,433.......$585,299 Savings(Released)
    Domanick Davis.....$3,800,000.....$200,000 Charge
    Seth Payne............$4,225,000........$850,000 Savings
    Todd Wade...........$5,166,666......$1,500,002 Charge
    Gary Walker..........$5,833,333.......$1,500,001 Charge

From those only Coleman was released outright , Walker will be released June 1 to spread his cap hit over two seasons.

Of the 143 players ESPN has on their possible cut list only only 35 were cut . 36 Counting G.Walker on June 1. Thats 24.47% .... poor speculation .

The only thing I would add to Corrosion's post is that their is speculation that if the a new CBA is reached the cap could go up anywhere from 5 mil to 10 mil. If that is the case you are more are likely to see those quality players, who did not perform to expectations under the former regime or were injured retained. Good cap managment and quality depth are hallmarks of good teams in the salary cap era.

Question is: What do you call people that follow where ever rumors take them, even if it means speculation out their nether region?

    Am I close?

bdiddy - heard the possibility as well on 610. I think there's gonna be quite a bit of big names released soon and we'll be wanting to grab them all (well, most).

Two things I'm not sure about - 1. the age and tradeoff as mentioned above. 2. while Kube does have the Denver ties, I don't think we'll be bringing all of Denver down here (unlike what Denver does to Cleveland). Besides, maybe I'm off - but didn't Kubiak said he liked what he saw in DD when he first joined the Texans?

What would be the difference between cutting him and trading him? I don't want to do either, but if we traded him couldn't we stay under the cap and get something back for him? I think he might be able to go for a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick.

just doesn't make sense to me...DD has trade value atleast...get a pick for him instead of just taking the cap hit...personally i don't understand why he and bush couldn't work together and be productive
