He pretty much said as much last year. He has a lingering neck problem.

That's too bad. I really liked him. I thought he was a good linebacker. The fact that he was Vietnamese-American made it even cooler.

and he was a Texas boy. I loved watching him play at A&M and just about went nuts when Jerry picked him up. I thought it was interesting what Jerry said about Dat....

Jerry said that back when Zack Thomas was available, he made the mistake of listening to the experts and passed on him because he was undersized. When Dat was on the board, he picked him rather than make the same mistake twice.

I wonder what Dat is going to do now. IMO he would make a great coach.

We visit the Rockport area from time to time - Goose Island State Park, specifically - and one winter day a few years ago we went down to the docks to pick up some shrimp for the grill. We went into this small fish market and as I stood there looking at some world class specimens under the glass I couldn't help but notice all the Cowboys crap on the walls of the place. After a short conversation with the person behind the counter I realized that was Dat's family business. I didn't even say anything negative about the 'boys while I was in there.....at least until after I paid for the booty.

Dat's one of those players you hate to lose...inspiring story and a great guy.

I remember very well what a terrific LB he was at A & M and he brought that same game to the Cowboys.

He's making a wise decision though. No need risking further damage to his body.

Word is they will move the kid from Tennesse that they drafted last year in the 2nd round to the inside to play along side bradie james and look for another OLB.

They need to find some way to trade up and get the guy from Ohio State.
