I don't see how referring to the skin on their butts is an improvement.
Given that I am not a Redskins fan, I would absolutely love this name change, it would be hilarious. What a terrible team name... hahaha
Redtails? What do whores and hookers have to do with Washington D.C.? Oh wait, nevermind.
They should take a page of the Texans book and call themselves the Washington Washtonians or the Washington DCers.
Now thats just silly.
I believe The Beltway Bandits is the most fitting.
Maybe The Capital Crooks? (that's not a typo)
I like the Washington Columbians.
Guess they would have to draft more Aggies.
What do Tuskegee and D.C have to do with each other? Bad idea.
I am so sick of political correctness.. Just leave it like it is.
Okay. I'm WITH the *Indians on this one. The name is a prejorative. I would be just as offended were there an NFL franchise called the Alabama Porch-Monkeys, The New Jersey Jigaboos or the New Orleans N:gg3rs. Red Tails? Eeeeh. Okay as a history buff I'm an admirer of the Tuskeegee airmen, but Red Tails? Kinda seems like a guy who wants to run for mayor trying too hard.
Why not use the name of an ACTUAL group of Indians and pay them residuals for the use of their name. The Blackfoot come to mind.
Same number of syllables so they could keep the same fight song and if you look at the logo on the Blackfoot website it's pretty similar to the current logo. Keep the colors, keep the logo. The team gets a bunch of people off their backs the Blackfoot Nation gets some recognition and a residual for the use of their name. It's win/win...or Nguyen Nguyen depending on who their lawyer is. I'm just sayin'.
*Yes I know the politically correct term is "native American" but I've met many who call themselves "Indians."
thinking: Isn't that John Snider from the Dukes of Hazzard?
Couldn't agree more!
Why not go with Washington Savages ? I like that.
The guy who played Kevin on The Wonder Years? Will Daniel Stern be doing stadium play by play?
(singing) "What would you do...if I sang...out of tune....."
I do not think Native Americans mind the use of the term "Indian" when they still actively use it.
Oneida Indian Nation
Monacan Indian Nation
Shinnecock Indian Nation
Samish Indian Nation
Quinault Indian Nation
Catawba Indian Nation
Cowlitz Indian Tribe

And on and on...
