I must admit that I have been a little concerned over the last few weeks. Not only are his numbers down but it doesn't seem like he is flying all over the field like he has been. Something has happened and he is not letting on.

And even if the above was true wouldn't that leave Ryans freed up to blitz and get some sacks or drop back for some picks?

Ryans has been a non factor to this point.

Someone before mentioned that he had to gain a bunch of weight this season and that has slowed him down. If thats the case start feeding him steamed rice or something, I want the old Demeco back.

Anyone who complains about Demeco needs to be shoved off the TEXAN wagon and not allowed back on!! PULLLLEEEESSSEEE!!! Demeco is just fine! Maybe he's just settling back and allowing his teammates to do their job, instead of him having to do it all. PLUS, he's been banged up, and he needs to back off a little, IF we want to have him around for a few more years, which I do!!! He's a LEADER!! He's out there shouting at the D all the time!! Leave Meco alone!!:kingkong:

I think he has been playing hurt for most of the year and that is most of the reason for the downturn in his play.

This is what I am thinking. I just hope he is not pulling a Merriman and jeopardize his career.

His ankle is injured ("rolled ankle"---sprained ligament)............not his knee joint (Merriman --- total instability, complete ligament tears). With that said ankle injury + increased weight + no rest = decreased performance.

    Various thoughts.

One reason he had such sick stats his rookie year was that the defense was really really bad as opposed to normal bad. Means lots of linebacker tackles.

Other factors in reduced tackles includes:

    1. His ankle is bothering him. He won't say that, but it is. Check out the picture below that I asked Andy to take after the last game that shows his ankles. He was walking pretty slow.
    2. Our smallish defensive tackles can't keep players off of him.
    3. Defense's time of possession is down because the offense stays on the field.

halle-freaking-lujah I think someone stumbled on why the Texans have been winning or close to winning the last 5 games. Keep the defense off the field is the best way for him to rest and keep our small ends (other than Mario) and horrible corner (you know who) off the field.
Great insight they should pay you to right a column or something.

We should have given him a rest, let him split time in either the Detroit or Cincy game with Bentley. Now its too late, we've got some tough teams ahead of us and if he rests it is a blow to our team if we're still in the playoff hunt. Later in the season if we aren't in the playoff hunt then we should let him rest and get ready for next year but if we are still in the hunt he's playing.

The problem is that he doesn't want to rest. He has the mindset that if the Texans are playing, then he wants to be out there on the field. That is both good, and bad.

I think he's doing just fine. Zac Diles really is that good. Now we just need to replace Greenwood and we have a pretty damn nice LB corps.

Saying Ryans has been a non-factor so far is a travesty, IMO. He contributes on so many levels. Dunta may be the backbone of the defense, but DeMeco is most certainly the eyes and ears.

Remember, he was playing injured last year towards the end of the season and we saw the same kind of production from him as we do this year when injured. Apparently an injured DeMeco is still better then a healthy Bentley. If I was Richard Smith or Kubiak I would've rest DeMeco during the Lions and Bengals game.... too late for that now.

I'm just glad we have Zac Diles, last year when DeMeco was hurt who did we have? Danny Clark and Morlon freakin Greenwood.... :thud:

Demeco is not playing with the explosion and quickness that he had been playing with...

Personally I think it's because of his weight, but hisankle may also be slightly tweaked...

If his ankle has been hurting him that may explain the weight gain....

And our DT's aren't smallish...They are average size four 4-3 linemen and Demeco is average size for a 4-3 MLB...

I've often wondered about that injury. Demeco had a torn PCL in his right knee in week 14 last year and then finished out the year and played in the ProBowl. What was ever done for that injury? Is it effecting him his year?

its a bit of a transitional year for DeMeco, settling into pure MIKE (4-3 MLB). The DL is improving, Diles has taken more area off his shoulders & the secondary is really good in run support. so Ryans can focus on breaking down the defense & deligating responsibilites.

his high productivity was more a reflection of being a hybred, inside-outside cover LB with slow out of position support.......no more

He probably spent the whole off-season resting the injury... which might of resulted in the weight gain. He didn't get surgery for it, so it might still have some lingering effects... but so far Kubiak, McClain, etc. hasn't mention anything about that injury so its probably not.
