I just watched the clip of Capers after practice, he indicated Glenn Earl is going to see some playing time at Strong Safety this week, and CC Brown will possibly be seeing time at Free Safety. Maybe I'm misinterpreting this, but I hope this is atleast partly intended to give Coleman a wake up call, and show him that if he doesn't step up he could lose his starting job. I wouldn't mind seeing CC at FS and Earl at SS for a while, atleast these guys don't pussyfoot around when it comes to tackling. We'll probably see them make mistakes in coverage, but guess what, Coleman the ex-cornerback hasn't exactly been playing lights out when it comes to coverage either. Whichever of them lines up on Gonzales, it doesn't matter, he's gonna eat us alive again, I'm sure.

i'm probably be the biggest marcus coleman fan out here but i must say his play has been just plan bad in recent games...i think i heard it best when someone said he was playing without heart...granted you can't measure the amount of heart someone has but you can see the difference between this year and the 2003 season when he lead the team in INT's...i think this has something to do with him wanting out of town to be reunited with glenn and parcells

    Houston, again.
I get the impression from watching Marcus that he is just playing to get a check and not really putting his heart into it. May just be where he is at in his carreer and he knows the team isn't going anywhere and he has pretty much run out of time on his carreer. Might even be looking to have the same thing happen to him that happened to his buddy Glenn. Any way you cut it, he needs to be replaced next year and starting to work Brown in would make sense. (probably means we won't do it)

He implied some changes and mentioned Earl as being more physical against the run and that would probably come in handy against the stout Chiefs rush offense in the Dom Capers show on 610am on Monday.

It is about time they put CC at FS. The kid is a FS if I ever saw one it is weird that they wanted to put him at SS. Earl is also a muscular guy. I saw him working out and my goodness the guy goes to war in there. Hopefully he can lock down his roster spot for next year.

i almost think that's the plan for next year is to have brown at FS and earl at SS...these guys are two good developing safties and i think it would be exciting to see both of these guys on the field at the same time

This current regime is slow to make decisions. Coleman has been playing like he has quit on this team for weeks. I don't think it would shock anyone if Earl at SS and CC Brown at FS would be a better combination than Coleman and anyone.

Maybe it's part of Capers' unflinching loyalty the Chron talked about yesterday.

coleman hasnt made enough big plays at a position that almost requires someone to make big plays. he has been too soft in pass coverage and hasnt been a factor in the run defense. i think hes been a big flop at that postition. i personally liked him more at CB bc of his size.

He was a huge factor last week, he rode Edge up and down the field...

I read in the Chronic that C.C. is leaning free safety and Earl is playing SS.

I think the coaches figured Coleman wasn't the guy for the job. I can't wait to see C.C. and Earl play together tomorrow night.

I wonder why they waited so long to do this. They may have just slowed down Earls progression. This is a late move already midway through the season. I guess its better than to see Larry Johnson give Coleman a piggy-back ride.

Fear of changing the entire secondary at one time I suppose ?

SS is more of the "big play" position IMO. I don't think of FS as a "big play" position. I mainly think of it as a position that tries to prevent the big plays.

well anybody on defense can make big plays it just depends on the player...but i will give you that free safety is more of a pass first and strong safety is more of a run first...Strong safety is almost an outside linebacker

CC Brown is athletic, and doesn't shy away from contact, but look for him to continue to miss assignments occasionally as well as opportunities for interceptions. He has been caught out of place several times this season, and he isn't very good at playing the ball once it's in the air - but these are things that will improve with coaching and experience. I'd rather see him than Coleman at FS at this point.

Earl is a mystery to me. I thought he had a very solid rookie campaign, we didn't hear his name very much, which isn't a bad thing for a safety. He didn't seem to give up big plays real often, was solid in run support, and seemed to be coming along fine, I'm not sure why he's seen the field so little this year. I think some have questioned whether he's ever regained the speed he had before his knee injury. Hopefully we'll get a good look at him on Sunday, if he does get playing time he'll probably have a busy day running after Gonzales and working against KC's running game.
