The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed former New Orleans Saints guard Carl Nicks to a five-year contract Wednesday, the team announced.

Sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the contract is worth $47.5 million, including $31 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid guard in the league.

Remember when 31 M guaranteed was LT money ? Bye-bye Chris Myers.

That's 9.5 million a year average for THE best left guard in the league. Myers is no where near the best center in the league, but is an excellent one for ZBS teams. I don't think Myers will get more than 7 million a year, but even at 5 a year the Texans will have trouble fitting him under the cap. At this point, I would rather keep Brisiel on the cheap and find a new C in the draft.

Bucs are throwing wild money around, but I am not sure they are doing it wisely.

    1. Bucs signed G Davin Joseph last year to a 7 years, $53 million contract.

    2. They resigned G Jeremy Zuttah for 4 years, $16 million. That's a lot for a bench player.

    3. WR Vincent Jackson: 5 years, $55.5M; $26M guaranteed. VERY bad contract for the Bucs. Jackson is a good player, yet has never caught more than 68 passes in a career. And that is with Phillip Rivers as a QB. How will he do without an elite QB? WAY too much.

Bucs know this is the last year teams can be cheap next year teams have to spend at least 90% of the cap.

Bucs had tons of room under the cap...may as well get the best in the biz.

That may be, but he still might end being the best paid center in the NFL before this free agency is over.

Nick Mangold is the top paid center in the league at 7.7m/yr average. No way does Myers get that at the age of 30. I think he gets about 5-6 mill a year over 5 years.
