Is this the same amount of time that we were supposed to give the ol before judging them to be crap?

No rb has made it back from this injury and I don't expect Foreman to be the first.

Can he hang on for a few years? Yes

Will he ever be what he could have been? Doubtful

I look forward to this next draft.
Gaine did a terrific job in the last one.
I especially liked the Reid pick but there are two others developing for us right now who both had some buzz before the draft - Peter Kalambayi and Duke Ejiofor.
    Gaine snagged both of them.
    Good job.

How long, who really knows? But I’m assuming they let him finish out his contract. The man’s first draft was pretty damn good, let’s see what he can do with a full set of picks. I can see him making another lateral move if there is some internal turmoil though.

I more see them replacing BoB if there is inner turmoil again between the GM and HC. Assuming SteelB's theory is correct, and I'm not sure it is but for the sake of arguement, then McNair picked BoB over Smith. Ok fair enough, Smith had been there the longer of the two so an arguement could be made that his vision wasn't working and if there was a clash I can see them going with the newer vision.

However, if that happens again then the reverse will be true and BoB will have been there the longest without his vision coming true or at least making strides towards it. If these boards are to be believed then Gaine is BoBs chosen GM, if it still doesn't work and comes down to a choice between them I see BoB being gone and them letting Gaine pick his new HC. Now whether that happens next year, the year after or even at all I don't know.

What does sending their condolences (common courtesy) have to do with this? Now, don’t take this as a personal attack, just wondering what you were trying to say...

Certainly not trying to be in TK's head, but it appears that he is attempting to say that there is no need give mention to the idea that the Texans made a choice of Smith over O'Brien when considering the unfortunate outcome.

That too. In that regard he'd be correct. All the conjecture has been definitively proven false. Smith left for a traumatic time. Got to spend her last few months with her. Glad they got to do so on a life cut short.

Well first let me say I'm one of the few on here that has defended Smith and think he got a raw deal. That being said Smith himself said in an interview that he and BoB had different visions and that he had gone to McNair with his vision. Now I agree, and have said, that his wife's cancer took the decision out of McNair's hand but that doesn't change the fact that there was going to have to be a decision.

Smith and BoB were not going to be able to coexist for much longer and no I can't say 100% that McNair would have chosen Smith over BoB. In fact I can see how he would have thought that since Smith had been here longer and BoB did deliver two division titles by that point why he might have gone with BoB over Smith. That wasn't even the point of the post to begin with. It was that I don't think they would choose BoB over Gaine if it came down to him vs another GM.

I think it's clear his theory was not correct. McNair did not pick BO'b over Rick. Didn't happen.

Who knows? I would think Bob would have gone with whosever vision aligned more with his.

Rick won 4. The two BO'b won led to two of our most embarrassing home losses in our short playoff history.

Then let's just say that. We don't need to pile on steelbtexan's hate & tarnish a good thing Ricky did by choosing family over a pissing match.

Sad. I was hoping she'd pull through.
Now Smith has to see three kids thru high school and college as a single dad.
I'd be surprised to see him back in the NFL any time soon.

And to all those who thought/said this was all just a scheme to give Smith a graceful exit so O'Brien could bring Gaine in....
