Publicly dump on the guy? By telling him honestly what he could expect?

By telling the press anything other than you like the guy. Where did expectations come into this?

do you really believe O'Brien is the type of person that handles criticism - via the press no less - from a subordinate very gracefully??

Do we like every boss we've worked for. Heck naw . But when it comes to me getting this bread, oh yeah we're cool AF.

Come on people, these players are about getting that money. So of course they will fake it until they make it. They will not come out and say, " um no I don't like this coach or that coach ". Not unless they're trying to force a trade. Lol

According to the positions in the Texan’s front office AJ is “Special Advisor to the Head Coach”. But I’m sure someone will find something negative about that.

    I enjoyed the comics.

    But the truth hurts.

Winning consistently cures all. Best believe that.

I thought that adding AJ to the staff was a smooth move by the Texans.
Still wondering if that was a McNair move or what....
...but whoever, it was a smooth move

Great PR move, he can help a young guy like V. Smith learn the ropes. I'm expecting alot of improvement from Smith next yr. It looked like he didn't even know the plays last yr. But he still made some plays, he's a really gifted guy. If he doesn't improve then the mental side of the NFL is too big for him and it's time to move on.

You're kidding, right? It may not have been random, but it's pretty well recognized as unwarranted.

    A sampling:
    CBS
    SI
    Chron
    NFL.com
    USA Today

    CBS

Other than that SI blurb, the primary verbiage used is stunning and surprising. Plenty of people in my industry could be stunned and surprised if I was fired, but that doesn't mean they also think it was unwarranted.

The point is, we as fans - or anyone outside the Texans organization - will never know the details as to why. We have no idea if it was unwarranted or not. But we do have a confirmation bias, which gets displayed around here regularly along with the whole "my opinion is fact" thing.

Just because we believe what we say doesn't make it true. Just ask my wife when I say I can still get it done like I did when I was 30.

Quick, off the top of your head, name an NFL GM fired in under 18 months, without a head coaching change involved...I'll wait.

The point being that you don't even grade drafts until 3 years out. There's ZERO chance you can accurately grade a GM in that short a time. Unwarranted is exactly the context of the "stunning and surprising".

Brian Gaine was fallguy #2 for Bill OBriens team takeover. Didnt OBrien just come out and say he had a big part in personnel selection even before Gaine? Tisk. Tisk.

Unless he wasn't fired because of the draft but for some other reason. I still say the way that happened so quickly and the way the Texans went completely radio silent afterwards suggests something else was going on. Maybe it had to do with the lawsuit, maybe it was because they thought they could get Cesario, maybe it was because he slapped an intern on the a$$ or something to that affect, we don't know and I doubt we ever will. I do not think it was because of the draft though, Texans never seemed all that high on Dillard and both BoB and Cal seemed to be right on board with that video of them calling Howard. It would have been easy for either one to just say "Welcome to the team" and go on but both spent time talking to him and were smiling during the conversation.

He was fired because Easterby cooked up this Caserio wild goose chase. If it wasn't for that dumbass ring ceremony spy mission, Gaine would still be here.

Also, McLane reported that O'Brien was already acting upset and there was tension between them starting a few weeks before that, after draft time.
