Best Drafts of All Time

Honoring Earl 34

Something Witty !
If you go back and look at how alot of great teams are formed , you 'll see they strike gold on at least one draft .
I hope that the 2006 draft does it for the Texans . I can hope you know .

'91 Dallas Cowboys:

Russell Maryland - 1st overall
Alvin Harper - 12th overall
Dixon Edwards - 37th overall
Godfrey Miles - 62nd overall
Erik Williams - 70th overall
Leon Lett - 173rd overall
Larry Brown - 320th overall

That was a pretty good one.

Taking Russell Maryland #1 overall was probably the blandest selection of
a #1 ever. I remember when the pick was made, and people said "Russell
who" ? Of course he was relatively productive for your average DT drafted
into the NFL, and not the spectacular bust that some #1s were. But really
a rather mediocre talent for a first rounder, let alone #1 in the top round.

Here is a fairly good draft - 4 of the first 5 picks ended up in the Hall of Fame. ;)

1974 Pittsburgh Steelers
1 Lynn Swann WR USC (Hall of Famer)
2 Jack Lambert LB Kent State (Hall of Famer)
3 John Stallworth WR Alabama A&M (Hall of Famer)
4 Jimmy Allen DB UCLA
5 Mike Webster C Wisconsin (Hall of Famer)

I don't know about that check out the Texans 1st 5 picks in 02 - all early too!

1 1 David Carr QB Fresno State
2 33 Jabar Gaffney WR Florida
2 50 Chester Pitts G San Diego State
3 66 Fred Weary G Tennessee
3 83 Charles Hill NT Maryland

:brickwall

do ya'll realize the Texans only 2nd rd picks have been those two in 02 plus Bennie Joppru in 03 who has never played a down in the NFL? thats whats called a poor track record, oh yeah they traded a gift (33rd pick in 04 for a supplemental pick that turned into Tony Hollings) and last years for P-Buc

I remember thinking the same but just being happy enough they didn't take Rocket Ismail first overall. But that draft as a whole was pretty bland.

Those Steeler teams were awesome. My dad use to kick me out of the living room ,because I was rooting for the Steelers during there Superbowl runs in the late 70's and the Oilers just couldn't beat them. Later I became an Oiler fan.:crying:
