OL protection calls is another issue I have with O'Brien. When Peyton Manning was with the Colts, everyone saw him audibling and doing these gestures at the line. What many people don't know is he did not make the OL calls. The center Jeff Saturday made the calls. If one of the smartest QBs to ever play the game did not have to make OL calls, why not take it off the plate of your young, inexperienced QB? Just because Brady did it, doesn't mean Watson should or you can't give him some additional help.

He has what, 5 starts in the nfl? Tyrod would've been a better choice.

    Agreed,

But Jimmy G was able to do it too.

    As a rookie?

Even if he was, that would point to better coaching, again.

& it doesn't matter. The point is if you get to the point where you notice the problem, you have to do something to fix the problem.

Again, that's something most of us believe a coach is supposed to address.

Personally I don't think you can put a change that big in midseason. But you'd think after the third time your franchise gets mugged by a free rusher it's safe to assume he's not seeing the guy & someone on the sideline would call a TO. Maybe a RB.

But the point is there was an obvious problem that surfaced early in the season that was still a problem at the end of the season. Something competent coaching should fix.

Hopefully Watson works on this flaw in his game this offseason.

    Totally disagree

Watson is progressing like most rookie QB's do. Some good/Some bad

At some point it's on Watson to figure things out.

That might be true, but the coaching staff can do a better job of helping him to figure things out. Even in the playoff game, Watson recognized the CB blitz, but the play design and spacing enabled the Colts DB to cover two Texans in the small area and read the play for an INT.

Here is a really good article on how the Rams are helping their young QB with reading defenses and even audibles by getting to the LOS as quick as possible and then communicating with him until his headset communication is shut off. After reading this article, does anyone think the Texans would do something so "outside of the box"?

Totally agree with getting out of the huddle and to the line quicker so Watson has a better chance to survey the defense. Hopefully this will be a part of BOB/Kelly's offseason self evaluation film study.
