In college I think its allowed though. I think there were two players wearing number 1 for A&M last year.

It bothers me too. A&M doesnt have names on the back of their jerseys so this really confused me. One player with the number 1 was the QB Reggie McNeil when the other was a fish corner. The first time I saw it I was trying to figure out why our QB was playing corner.

In college up to 5 players on the same team can have the same number as long as they are not on the field at the same time.

    Houston, again.
It happens every year until the excess folks are gone, then all the numbers are sorted out and only one is used.

You know if you think about it, in a long way down the road there is not going to be enough numbers or "retired" numbers will have no meaning. I guess they will have to start retiring jerseys but not numbers, some of the really old teams in the league who have had lots of retirees should have this problem sometime. I would do the research but I dont really care.

What's fun Yoda is picking out one of the long shots and seeing how long he lasts. You think about the number of players on NFL rosters, 32 * 53 + taxi and IRed guys, there are less than 2000 guys every year who makes a rooster in some form. Pretty elite faternity. I will enjoy watching Jamaal Lord this preseason. A great college athelete switching postions. And as recent history has shown not a very easy thing to do. He has a shot at some major PT durring the pre season. Little thin at free saftey. I pull for all of these guys they are all great atheltes. Clint Stoerner (SP?) from my old highschool is a few games away from being vested in the NFLPA's retirement. It's gotta be hard for guys like that to make a decision on wheither to hang up the cleats or not. Let peter Pan go and get on with your life. The guys with the double numbers, they got to luv the game to go through what they are going through this summer. Fight hard for a little PT in the preseason. Hope to catch the coaches eye and make the rooster as a special teams player. Long shots everyone. But at least they can say we were in an NFL camp. That's a pretty elitle faternity too. Gaud I luv this game.

The reason A&M doesn't have the names on the jerseys is cause the team hasn't earned that privilage. After the pathetic 03 season coach Fran decided to take the names off so that everyone realizes that they are playing for the team and not themselves. This seems to have worked maybe they will have the names again next year.
