Our VP of Player Personnel Scott McCloughan was promoted to GM. I'm stoked that we locked him up, because he's been great bringing talent to SF. Plus Ron Wolf was recommending him to Parcells for Miami's GM job, but McCloughan stated he wanted to stay in SF.

Now that he is GM, he has "final say" on decisions. Nolan hired him and they work well together, so more or less it's not much of a change.

Our OC Jim Hostler was fired. Major shocker there. More firings (most probable along the offensive side) are very possible. Adam Schefter reports that Nolan is interested in Chan Gailey for the job, but this hasn't been confirmed.

Anyway, nothing groundbreaking. Just thought I'd update on the NFL's coaching carousel.

I think the worst thing for the 49ers was losing Norv Turner to the chargers

Pretty much, since it happened so late. Teams wouldn't let us interview their coaches for the OC job so we had to hire from within.
