From all accounts it sounds like he is athletic enough.
He is going to have to make his fair share of rookie mistakes so why not start him asap? The sooner the better.
Cant keep him wrapped in cotton wool for ever.

I didn't mean redshirt him, I meant, he might struggle getting acclimated to NFL edge rushers his rookie year so start him at guard to get him live action before pushing him to the outside. We know he has the feet to keep up, he just needs to get stronger and trim some bad weight before moving to the outside.

Drafting a possible RT when we needed a LT is the reason why most people had a problem with the pick. I think he can be a solid RT in time. There were other guys in the draft picked later who will be better RT's. It was a reach pick. And he's not a Left Tackle. Double Whammy

All of them started as rookies and played well . You said not many rookies start and that is not true. Most 1st Rd rookies start and any of the guys I listed would be an upgrade over what started there last yr. Hopefully Howard can be added to the list.

5.05 forty better vertical than Dillard, but really it’s fact he played QB, TE before switching to OL.

Or you could just watch his movement skills for a man his size, he’s very fluid, no hip tightness like Mc Gary, really think sky is the limit if his work ethic matches.

Maybe his shorts issues contrlibuted to his subpar 3-cone, short shuttle etc... but not his 40 or his vertical.

Have the player here who most reminds me of Tytus, some TE named Jason Peters. Was any good playing LT :kingkong:

Peters combine numbers were better than Howard’s across the board. Also, Peters was an undrafted free agent. No one is dismissing Howard’s chances. It’s the draft capital spent and what the draft capital wasn’t spent on. It’s the fact that the Texan did little to address the position and then took a project with their 1st pick. That’s the issue.

Fully understand that but what are we going to do about it now? I would suggest hope for the best, that Texans front office, coaches and scouts are better @ their job projecting system fits and addressing need over collective on this board, hard as we try.

I really do appreciate your input, you contributed more than anyone here to navigate through a tough process. Your posts, always concise, informative and generally spot on. We all would have been happier if Texans had traded down then taken Howard, however it would have been a short window and risk too great that O’Brian, Devlin and Gaine would have lost their target. In three years nobody will complain Texans used their 1st rd pick on Tytus Howard.

I said lock at RT, possible LT. I think you're the only one saying he's a project RT.

Looks like a LT to me.

What did you think of the Eagles drafting Carson Wentz with the #2 overall pick?

I think this is very much the same. As good as Carson Wentz is, he is still developing into an NFL QB.

He came from a small school. Didn't play in an NFL offense. But caught the attention of many scouts. Impressed at the Senior Bowl.

The hoopla wasn't the same for Howard. He's not a QB or a pass rusher. & we didn't spend the #2 overall on him.

I'm not saying the Texans did the right thing. I have no idea & won't "know" until I see him own the position, either RT or LT (I'm one of those who thinks it makes sense to start inexperienced talent on the right side before moving to the left).

Had to come back to these points you made. Both repped 220 21 times. Peters weighted in 336 vs Tytus 322. Jason Peters arm length was only 33.13” vs Tytus 34”. Hands on Peters 9.38” vs Tytus 10 5/8”. Shuttle times are all hand times, there are a lot of variables involved, back then also included 40 times which you add at least a 10th. Could keep going but point is Howard is not inferior prospect to Peters, who did go undrafted but guess what, game has changed and premiums have gone up and up on Tackles. Last point Eagles traded up ahead of Texans for a tackle in first round (as we all know too well) what if the guy drafted after Dillard winds up being the better Tackle, kinda like history repeating itself, well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it :ahhaha:
