I know for a fact Devlin worked Howard out 3 times. You dont think he would have input? I bet he was the loudest voice in the room advocating for Howard.

Maybe not the loudest, but obviously shared his opinion on his strong and weak points.
Imo, his first hand intimate knowledge plus other Texans coaches opinions trumps second hand smoke.

Do you think Devlin has total autonomy, that he does what he wants, when he wants? Or do you think someone told him to workout Howard three times?

It was probably that person who told him what to do who was the loudest voice. Coaches work for O'Brien. Scouts work for Gaine. I'm thinking it was O'Brien who told Devlin to workout Howard three times.

But.. it could have been a Scout was told to look at Howard, three different scouts from three different regions. We don't know since the media doesn't report on which scouts are doing what. Devlin might have just been the whip they used for the three different scouts. Makes more sense, to me, than Devlin needing three workouts to see what he sees.

Considering how little useful tape there was on Howard (one half vs Auburn and some snaps at the Senior Bowl), I would think 3 workouts would be the bare minimum.

Must have been some hellava workouts.

I think a scout told Gaine about Howard and then Devlin worked him out and interviewed him at the Sr Bowl. Then Devlin worked out Howard at the combine. (Along with all of the other OL) they talked to Howard at the combine and decided to bring him in for a private workout.

Howard must've really impressed Gaine/BOB and Devlin was the guy who advocated for the pick after the combine workout. So all 3 were in agreement along with the scout.

Basically, Devlin took on the role Gibbs had with the former GM and Kubiak.

Lets hope they're as right as Gibbs was with DB.

Did you see the caption of Humble and Hungry under the tweet?

I want do anything to win and can be an A-Hole if needed to be the new caption. Humble but hungry is so Texans org.

A-Hole with Swag would be a fine caption with me.

The Bengals should be your favorite team then... how successful are they again? Storied history of adding A holes with swag.

    Overboard?

How about a team like the Chiefs/Eagles/Rams? That would be a more appropriate comparison.

I'm really negative on Devlin as an oline coach. In my opinion he's the weakest link on the entire team coach trainers or players. I am going to attempt to not bring up Devlin again.
I am and have been a fan of Titus Howard and Scharping. I did think Howard could be selected later as the link that Doc provided stated. PFF said Howard could be available round 2; he might not have been and that's worth the risk at this point. I do appreciate Texans being willing to take those risks for what they believe is the right way to go. At this point I'm more hopeful for the Texans than the Houston Rockets.

There was more than one source talking about the Texans interest in Howard before the draft

You just named one team that hasn't made a Super Bowl appearance in their HC's tenure, one team that won a Super Bowl with a devout and outspoken choir boy of a Christian at QB, and another team that made the Super Bowl on arguably the biggest travesty of a missed call in the history of the sport.

You missed the point entirely. It's about taking chances and being aggressive. The last SB winner/Runnerup were aggressive.

You can paint this F'n pcture however you like but it is what it is.

And the Texans will never when anything until they become more aggressive. Why? Because other teams are going to be aggressive. The NFL has changed and those orgs (Not just the Texans) that dont change will get left behind.

I'm actually looking forward to having this discussion next offseason as well. Cant wait to fire up the Fire BOB thread again, nut this is really where the major short comings in the Texans org starts and this comes from the top. If you cant see this after 17 yrs I'm certainly not going to change your mind.

I read it numerous times before the draft. It was never specified which round he was valued in but still...
