The new guy only has 10 punt returns, so hi 1 42 yarder skews his average by alot. Take it away and he is around 6 ypr, but the other 2 players that have returned punts for philly went for 18 yards on 7 returns so maybe their specials teams aren't so great?

Real questionable decision. Ervin had become a reliable kick returner. Has anybody claimed him yet?

Yeah. I think I'd drop Joe Webb before Ervin, just to see what the new guy looks like for a week or so. I mean it's the bye week. I'm sure Joe wouldn't mind the time off, then we can pick him up after the Washington game. If the kid works out, drop Ervin. If not, drop the kid. If the kid makes a good receiver, & we still prefer Ervin as a return specialist, keep Webb's number on speed dial.

His kick returns ranked 9th, but his punt returns were mundane at 16...............and his value as a RB and WR for reasons I previously have posted.

No problem. I'll settle for a Seaport dark roast. :)

    Much respect,

yep and everytime he returned he got 10 yards. He did what he is supposed to do. I think ten is enough to get an evaluation but we will see in about a week. I'm more concerned over losing Ervin's kick returns at 25 yard avg and he only had ten of those.

They needed a slot WR with Coutee out.

That lead to Ervin being cut.

This is Carter's chance to make an impression on the coaches for next yrs team.

yep depending on Carter and Thomas remaining 2018, I could remove WR from my mock board.

he did not get 10 yards on every return. He had a 42 yard return that severely skews his overall average because he has an incredibly small sample size of 10 returns. 10 of anything isn't a large enough sample size to truly get meaningful information out of it.

I get that but I will take a 42 yard return in every ten.

Same number of 40+ yard returns that Ervin had in 56 returns.

I think Ervin not being signed to our PS supports Doc's medical analysis of injury.

Texans cut wide receiver Malachi Dupre from practice squad, sign running back Josh Ferguson to practice squad (he was on our PS in Oct 2016.........for 1 week before being released)

Texans' Bill O'Brien explains decision to cut Tyler Ervin, add DeAndre Carter
Aaron Wilson , Houston Chronicle Nov. 12, 2018

The Texans' decision to cut their primary kick returner, Tyler Ervin, during the bye and claim DeAndre Carter off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles as his replacement was a bit unexpected

The Texans had stuck with the former fourth-round draft pick from San Jose State for nearly three seasons.

Ervin returned from a torn patellar tendon suffered last year He had been steady this year, but not that explosive.

Doc, do you think they signed Ferguson just in case Foreman is not ready to come back? If I recall, some of your statements about Foreman's recovery and rehab weren't exactly glowing. Just wondering if the Texans are "hedging their bets" a little.

That's a good possibility as a potential stop gap in case that Foreman does not work out or one of the active RBs gets injured.

hmm maybe, but he doesn't really have to build or skillset to be a 3 down back. I originally thought he was signed to replicate the Chris Thompson role as they are both similar builds and types of athletes, but it looks like Thompson will be out this game anyways. but maybe they are looking for a change of pace back?

Still kind of want to see Buddy Howell just cause

Takeaway the two or three long runs Barry Sanders had every game and was just an average back.
