2010 Playoff Highlights -Jets beat Patriots - Avenge embarrassing loss

The Jets had an attitude, a chip, something to prove. They were pissed and didn't shake in awe of Brady and the Mighty Patriots. They mocked them. Can the Texans, this Texans team do the same?
We shall see.

Jets and Pats have been playing each other at least twice a year since 1960 and series is close to even. I don't know if this situation is comparable.

I remember this game and I wish it had never happened because I'm sure the Patriots also remember it, remember it very well like it happened yesterday.

The Jets were also without their SS for the first matchup and he provided a spark for the second game. I believe it is the only game TB/BB have lost after a bye.

If our D play like the saturday game,we can win. If we can run the ball,we'll win,for sure.

Maybe, but then again, Brady would've missed the throws that Dalton missed. Green in the endzone, for example, wouldn't have been overthrown by Brady. We played well, but there were plenty of opportunities for the Bengals.

Additionally, Jay Gruden's gameplan was not very good at all. Not running enough when they were having success and targeting Gresham instead of Green early on was a mistake on their part, imo.

They didn't have Leonhard for the second game. He missed the rest of the season after getting hurt in practice.

FYI - Before you get too invested in the whole Jets beating the Pats in the playoffs after being the Pats wiped them out in the regular season, thing. Remember the following. Only 23 players remain from that 2010 steam. I was a good team, but flawed. BB was in just 2nd year of a total roster reboot. His genius is that the Pats were able to keep winning games even while he turned over almost the entire roster. IIRC only 5 Pats remain from the 2007 team

Any NFL team can beat another on any give Sunday. Every week for 17 weeks we have examples of it. So a very talented Texan team can absolutely beat the Pats next Sunday. But what happened with the Jets really isn't a factor in what will happen in the game.

Here are some of my notes on the game.

Jets punted on first possession.
...

Patriots had the ball at their 16.
They moved the ball to the Jets 31 on 7 plays.
2 runs, 1 reverse,
Brady was 3-4 for 35.
The incompletion to D. Branch in the flat was broken up by Revis.
Jets rushed only 3 or 4 so far.

On 1-10, the Jets rushed 5 from base 52, but the 5th man simply play patsie cake at the LOS.
The rush was really non-existent, nobody got anywhere near Brady.
Brady lofted a screen pass (no pressure) over the head of the RB BJGreen.
The WILB Harris was ready to pound on Green; instead he saw the floating ball coming his way.
He caught the ball easily and scampered 58 yards to the Pats 12.

This was just a strach-your-head throw by Brady.
If it was Schaub, people would have called it a WTF moment.

The Pats escaped without any damage, however.
Jets went nowhere on 3 plays and missed the easy FG.

On 1-10, Jets rushed 4.
JJ Watt (I mean, Shaun Ellis) beat the RG straight away and sacked Brady for a 7-yd loss.
Even though it was quick, this also qualified as a coverage sack.
The 4th rusher, 97, held off a little bit to slightly nudge Edelman (coming out of the backfield),
and hovered around for a hair waiting for the quick pass.
Brady saw that, and tried to go to his next read.
That was when Ellis blind-sided him.

Still, the Pats were able to move the ball all the way to the Jets 7 in 6 plays.
4 runs, 3 completed passes (10, 3, 28)

The Jets rushed 4 twice and brought 5 once.

On the 4-man straight rush, Brady still had a rather clean pocket and found the TE Crumpler for 28.

on 2nd and 5 at the Jets 7, the Pats went play action from their jumbo formation (single back, single receiver.)
They faked a run while sneaking the TE Crumpler up the seam.
Crumpler started out blocking as if it was a run.
Brady threw a good pass, but Crumpler simply dropped it in the end zone.
That was a sure TD.

On third and 5, the Pats went with their 11 personel (3 WR, 1 TE).
The Jets showed 3 and rushed 3, dropping 8 into coverage.
Brady can see this and he was wanting to go through the whole progression
(thinking that he has some time.)
As the RDE went around the LT, Brady felt the pressure and tried to step up the pocket.
"J J Watt" split the double team, however, and sacked Brady for a loss of 9
Brady could have dumped off the ball to Woodhead out of the backfield but he didn't.
The RDE didn't turned back upfield until 3 seconds had elapsed.
Brady ought to be aware of this, but he wasn't.
Not a good play by Brady, and quite uncharacteristic of him.

The Pats settled for a FG.

They would get the ball back, leading 3-0 as the Jets had to punt.

Early in the 2nd quarter, the Pats went 3 and out.

The DB sacked Brady on a 4-man zone blitz.
The Jets disguised it well on one side, but not the other.
Coleman had walked forth, back, and forth, showing that he could be coming in on a blitz.
Poor awareness by Brady; he didn't even think that the DB would come,
and was caught totally off-guard through his own fault.
Again, quite uncharacteristic of Brady.

So far, all the mistakes had been Brady's except for that drop by Crumpler.

Jets had the ball at the Pats 49.
They would score a TD to take the lead 7-3
The key play was a 37-yd pass to Braylon Edwards as Sanchez managed to avoid the pass rush.

Pats next drive.

2-12 Tom Brady pass complete short left to Alge Crumpler for 9 yards (tackle by Calvin Pace)

Jets rushed 3, and played combo zone/man.
Good job by Pace in staying with Crumpler on the shallow crossing route.

3-3 Tom Brady pass incomplete short left intended for Rob Gronkowski

4-man zone blitz, combo man-zone coverage.
Brady had time but couldn't find any one.
He finally had to scramble and threw a ball at Gronks' feet.

NE ball at their 20

Tom Brady pass incomplete short left intended for Rob Gronkowski
Zig/Zag.
Miscommunication between them two.

4th and 4, faked punt.
Direct snap to the personal protector Patrick Chung.
He bobbled the ball 3rd Quarterand fumbled.

Jets recovered and scored in 4 plays to lead 14-3 at the half.

Don't know if I have time to do all the details in the second half or not.
If I don't, I will just summarize it.

For the half, the drop by Crumpler cost the Pats 4 points and the failed faked punt change the field position dramatically. The Jets were able to score a TD off of it.

This could have been a 7-7 game at the half.
Or let's just say that the Jets moved the bal well enough to kick a FG.
They would only lead 10-7 instead of 14-3.

This reflected in the outcome of the game.

By having more men in coverage, the Jets were able to avoid the big play.

The Pats were still able to move the ball though.
If not for Brady's I uncharacteristic errors, the Pats might still lead at halftime.

Even if it was a tied game at the half, the Pats would still win in at the end.
