What do you think would need to happen for us to improve?

First off we need to be more aggressive on D. More press and man-to-man coverage. We need to ditch that defensive scheme that's allowing cushions.

Two of our three top CBs CANNOT be Reeves and Faggins.

Molden need to get caught up to the speed of the game, quick.

Wilson needs to get caught up with the team, quick.

Adibi needs to come back and get involve with the team.

Okam needs to come step it up in practice, so he coach will atleast activate him for the game. He needs to become our guy in the middle, sometimes before the bye week.

ZBS needs to be pick up, of course.

Schuab needs to look at game films over and over and over again.

We need to move Demps to SS and have Wilson play FS. We are too slow back there.

CC Brown is mediocre at best. I do not think he was better then Glenn Earl, atleast pre-injury.

Our CBs are instructed to give a lot of cushion because they aren't very good.

When a CB consistently gives a big cushion it is usually because the coaches are afraid that he will be beaten deep.

The solution to that part of the scheme would be more talent at CB.

I figured that was the reason. That's why I said both Molden & Wilson needs to get caught up quick. I think Wilson should play CB for us until Robinson is back, and is healthy.

We need to bury those rejects, R&F, at the bottom of the depth charts.

I don't know why everyone has all these "needs" for us to get better. The only way I see us competing with top tier teams is when they put in their second string after they stomp us in the first 3 quarters. We looked ok, not great, but ok against the steelers backups. Our starters vs. every teams backups and we may, just may have a winning season.

This is not a thread for us to say what we need to do to compete with the top teams. This is a thread for us to say what we need to do to not be compare with the bottom teams.

The whole toilet-bowl thing was fun for one year. Let's not get back to that level again.

as i put in another thread

"we just need to execute"

:wild:

1. Fire Richard Smith and promote Ray Rhodes or Frank Bush to DC.

2. Activate Cochran and Okam and put them in. Waive Weaver.

3. Pull Schaub for Sage if he is awful like today.

4. Dispense with "character" and "class" when it comes to getting football players and find the meanest, nastiest SOBs around.

5. Fire Kubiak and bring in proven winner to turn things around if things don't improve this season. I am ready for Martyball. Perennial playoff disappointment sounds good to me at this point. I miss blowing playoff games.

Agree with 1-4, especially number 4. That one slipped my mind.

I think number 5 is alittle extreme though. But Kubiaks needs to show he can make better adjustment coming out of halftime. He needs to put the red flags away. He needs to prepare the team better for the upcoming games.

On offense the only thing we need to do to improve is (I think I'm gonna throw up...) "learn to execute our offense" properly. We need to learn how to run in this system. I am of the opinion that if Green stays healthy (here it comes again...ugh) and Slaton continues to improve and adjust to the speed of the pro game then we're going to be able to run the ball in a few weeks on a fairly consistent basis and then we will be able to have some success in our passing game as it's designed to function in this system.

Saying that we're a pass-first team is fine and all but that's not the kind of system we're running. If we have to be a pass first team then we're in trouble because we don't have the kind of offensive line that could drop back in pass protection most of the game. our running game predicates that we have smaller more agile linemen. We aren't going to be keeping people out of the backfield for long if they don't respect our running game. Time together and reps is all we need. We can pick up better pieces when they become available but nothing is going to help us like frustrating, difficult to watch, time in the system.

On defense we need Dunta Robinson back badly. We miss him a ton. Past that I just think we need for young guys to grow up fast and we need to get lucky with people like Okam who could be that big run stuffing body in the middle for us if that's what he wants to do. I'm well documented on my thoughts about our current defensive system so no reason to go into that again. I think we need to change that but that's a post season step if it comes to that.

Confidence.

We played without any today. This game was lost after we got two bad spots from the officials on the first drive.

Oh that's easy. We just need to "execute". The truth of the matter is that as far as offense goes, the line is the key. Today was the first time going against a gameday high caliber D. We failed. I don't think anybody truly expected us to come out against a tough 3-4 D and dominate them. Our line probably won't get it until week 3 or 4. At the same time, that is also when our schedule eases up. A week ago everyone on this board was saying that if we could go 2-3 in our first 5 we would be looking good for the rest of the season. Well we are 0-1. We got manhandled. It happens. As long as you just don't want to compare with the bottom instead of COMPETE with the top teams we are on par.

This is a quote from nfl.com
"Parker rushed for more touchdowns in the game than he did all of last season... Matt Schaub is 4-10 in his career as a starter; 1-7 on the road... Mario Williams has recorded at least one sack in seven of his last eight games..."

First off Weaver needs to lose his ticket for the flight back to Houston. We'll file a missing persons report with the HPD since he's been missing for his entire time here in Houston. Secondly, we need Dunta back badly. Give Clemens or Bonds a call & see if you can score some good stuff from one of his guys that could speed his recovery up.

On offense you need to have a priest come & bless Matt Schaub's jerseys as the Curse of #8 seems to be screwing things up. He made some simply awful throws today. He can't keep playing that way this season or we'll be talking about draft picks in the 2009 draft by October. The O-Line needs to realize not to block every play as if it's a screen pass. Myers was getting beat like a mule, and I don't want to think what Haynesworth would've done to him today. Our RBs looked good for as little as we ran the ball. This season is going to depend on the play of the O-Line, and if they don't improve from what we saw today we'll be in for a long season.

Alex Gibbs needs to live up to his legendary Oline guru label.....sorry, but I'm not feeling Chris Myers (who already HAS EXPERIENCE in this system and SHOULD BE AHEAD OF EVERY LINEMAN ON THE LINE)

I'm starting to figure out why Shanny was willing to give him up for just a 6th rounder. I haven't mentioned it before, but have noticed it...(in preseason)...Chris Myers looks light in the britches and gets absolutely ZERO push up the middle, hell he can't even hold the line. Watching him get thrown into Slaton like he was a bean bag chair was so demoralizing and made me want to throw up, the guy got tossed around like a doll.

Sorry to tell you folks, but like the story of the previous 6 years.....this team will only go as far as the performance of our Oline (and QB play), if we can't establish a running game to help keep our crappy coached defense off the field we're done, if the Oline doesn't get their crap together and if Chris Myers can't move somebody off the line.....5-11 here we come

When Gibbs first came on board, we were saying that it'll take awhile for the linemens to pick up on the ZBS, especially since they can't practice it on their teammates. We all knew that it'll be until mid-season before the car runs smoothly. I just hope the season isn't lost before that time comes.

I knew it'd take a little while before they got the system down......but they aren't even making basic run blocks....even Atlanta wasn't this bad out of the gate. So far this year, defensive lineman have just been pitching tents behind our Oline while inviting our RBs over for some s'mores....it's disgusting...I have no faith in this team to pick up any tough yards running the ball.
