"The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. in a middle- to upper middle-class neighborhood just west of downtown Jacksonville and blocks from the St. Johns River."

So it sounds like it didn't happen in the 'Hood. And dank, I've always thought of Jacksonville as, well not like ATL or Chi-town or NOLA or Houston when it comes to this crap. But just goes to show it's happening 'bout everyplace.
Here's hopin the kid pulls thru and makes it.

Wow!! All the time I spent in Jacksonville, I never realized there was a "middle- to upper middle-class neighborhood.." , except maybe Amelia Island...

The game is secondary....regardless of what team he plays for, may he pull thru this with everyones prayers....

True but I still hope he pulls through and plays again. I mean that in the "I want him to get everything he had back" way and not in the "it's all about the game" way.

No one would think other wise of you Herv. No one wants to see someone career (what ever it is) end like this. Hope he pulls through and lives a productive life even if it is not on the field.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jaguars player Richard Collier was out of surgery and in what police described as "very critical condition" after he was shot several times outside a Riverside apartment early Tuesday
Man the Jags have not had a good off season.

I wish him well.

If I recall correctly, I believe the person with him (Kenneth Pettway) was on our practice squad a couple years ago.

Sad stuff indeed, hope he does make it.

That's an understatement for sure. It's sad that so many of these instances occur late at night and connected with "clubbing." As the family has requested no further updates, pray that the next bit of news is positive.

As a byline (again with late night clubbing):

CLOSE CALL: Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was ordered out of his car at gunpoint, patted down and handcuffed while a K-9 unit searched his vehicle for drugs outside a Miami Beach nightclub over the weekend, according to police.

Taylor yelled at officers repeatedly and was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, after they advised him three times to quiet down, according to Miami Beach Police.

"As officers began to check vehicle for weapons, defendant became vocal again and attempted to (incite) the crowd of bystanders," the report said. "Defendant really became vocal when drug dog checked for narcotics."

ACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars offensive tackle Richard Collier, who was shot earlier this month, is paralyzed below the waist and has had his left leg amputated, his doctors said Monday.
Wow!! I hadn't heard that before.... Truly sad.

14 times? Did the guy reload?

Thats terrible. Paralyzed, amputated. I would rather of died.
Seriously? He still has a brain...many handicapped people live very productive lives and do as much if not more than able bodied people.

I'm sure you know that and I'm not telling you anything but right about now I imagine his family are thanking the good Lord above that he survived.

God bless Collier and his family. Tragic tale. Part of me wants to know what happened and why but the rest of me wants this story to go away so he and his family can endure adapting their lives to new realities.

I knew he was in danger of being paralyzed but I had no idea he was going to have to have his leg amputated. I hope the scumbag that did this to him gets his due.

I agree totally with WWJD. I have always felt that given the choice between a working brain and a working body, I would pick brain.

What has happened to him is tragic and I hope he is able to find the silver lining and end up leading a joy filled life. Sometimes what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. My prayers go out to him and his family.
