Wong

Paragon Blue

Waterboy
Is Wong better suited to play the inside or the outside? With that being said, where do you think he will start this year? :hmmm:

He looked bad playing inside in the preseason and Peek looked horrible starting on the right side...I'm not sure if Wong didn't get moved to the inside last year becuase we didn't feel he could handle it or we didn't feel Peek could handle starting...I think Wong will still be on the right side next season unless we draft a guy like Merriman or Pollack...

Even though Wong didn't have the sacks we all wanted, he did have the TOs. How many INTs did he have this year? With the likes of Indy being a part of this division we want to make sure we have a good cover LB and Wong did a pretty good job in that department. I still don't know how Peeks shoulder is.

personally i think still think that our starting linebacking corp will be peek wong greenwood and babin...sharper i believe will be traded to cinci for one of their third round picks...i believe we will draft a linebacker early in day one either in the first or second round depending on who falls

Wonder if we could move Sharper for one of those 3's Cinci has, then add that to our 1 and move up just enough to get Derrick Johnson?

Idle thought, that's what this time of year is for. I hate March. If you don't like college hoops (like me) and you can't wait for the NFL draft then March is like some kind of month long living hell.

agreed, this is maddening

yet we cannot stop ourselves....

That Being said Wong is proficient at both inside and out in both the 3-4 and 4-3. However, Because of that versatility I see Capers Possibly moving our LBs around now with the personnel we have there. That would add another wrinkle of confusion to the opposing offense where is Wong Lined up? is outside inside, weakside strongside, blitzing or dropping back. I wish i could design the scheme. It would be a thing of beauty full of LB shifts and fakes.

i'd take merriman over johnson, he will be a better pass rusher
They would play different positions for the Texans. Merriman would be an OLB while Johnson would be an ILB.

I would personally take Johnson because he is one of those special talents that don't come around very often. He could end up being Ray Lewis without all the antics. With Johnson in the middle, no one would ever say that the Texans are slow at LB.

Johnson is also close to a sure thing. He stayed at Texas for 4 years, saw extensive playing time his freshman year and then started 3 years. Merriman left after his junior year and only started full-time one season. Merriman is by no means a finished product and therefore is not guaranteed to start for the Texans right away (if ever) since he will have competition from Peek. Johnson would be a starter from Day One.

not sure about ray lewis but if you watch the way derrick johnson plays the game he always reminds me of derrick brooks...johnson isn't known for his hard hits but always finding the ball just like brooks does

Yeah, I guess he does play a lot like Brooks.

Back to the topic of the thread, Wong said he is willing to play inside or outside, wherever the coaches ask him to play. Last year he really didn't get much time in camp at ILB, just part time for a week or two. This year, they will know after the draft where Wong will be and he will get the rest of the offseason plus all of training camp to work on the inside if that is where he will be.

i agree i see wong being inside unless by some grace of god we obtain DJ via a trade up...which is actually not that hard to see happening when you think about it...trade sharper for 3rd rounder...package our 1st and probably two 3rd plus a day two pick and we could move up enough spots to grab him...but that is still unlikely since the team that we would be trading up with probably needs and wants him just as badly as we do

There's always the possibility Sharper will still be here, and if we drafted Pollack or Merriman that might entail Wong being benched.

well i think hes better playing inside. we tried him as an outside LB, and he played alrite, but i like the speed he can give us at MLB. hes also a good pass cover man, so having him up the middle is probably better. he also has more experience as a MLB from his days as a vike.
