Austin TV for Bucs/Texans pre-season

EDIT - UPDATE - CW Austin is NOT showing the Bucs/Texans game. Far as I know, the game will not be shown anywhere on TV in Austin.

Back before pre-season when I emailed KNVA to find out if it was true they were going to show the Texans pre-season games, the person who replied told me they would in fact be showing the first two games. Nothing was said about this Thursday's game, however. So I wasn't sure if our great Austin fans would be able to watch.

I emailed the station today for a follow-up, and I got this confusing reply:

We have an NFL game this Thursday the 28th of August, teams are as follows: Jacksonville @ Washington , it airs from 6-9p!

Keep in mind this wasn't necessarily a programming person at the station... rather a person who responds to viewer comments... they may not have an in-depth knowledge of the station's specific programming. But I did reply and asked for clarification/notification if something changes or if their initial email ends up being erroneous.

I'll update here if I hear any new info.

Hm. I guess the Austin CW is affiliated with NBC, because she was referring to the NBC broadcast of that Skins/Jags game. I asked for clarification, and I made it clear I was talking about the Austin CW affiliate, not the local NBC affiliate... so again, if I hear anything new - (or you know, if one of you guys know what's up) I'll post it.
 
Okay - I heard back after I asked for clarification.

First of all - KXAN (NBC) and KVAN (CW) are both run out of the same place in Austin, so they do in fact answer emails for both networks in Austin, so that bit of confusion is now clear.

Next - the Texans / Bucs game will not be shown on CW this week, so as far as I know, thus far there is no TV for the game in Austin. :(
 
Dang that sux. I mean, it's not like that Jags game is anything anyone in Austin wants to see either.

This sucks, on top of this the cowpies are on cbs on thursday at 7.

How can NBC show the jags/redskins over the Texans? :gun:
 
Well, NBC has no choice. It's a national TV game, and they don't do regional coverage. They don't have the option to show any game aside from Jags/'Skins.

To show the pre-season stuff - a network affiliate in Austin would have to make a deal with the Texans pre-season network or whatever it's called. I guess KNVA thought it was worth it for the first two games, but not the last. Apparently neither Schaub or Rosenfels are even going to play Thursday. Maybe they figured the cost wouldn't be worth it ratings-wise.
 
Did they showed the 4th game os pre-season last year? I know they didn't show it the year before that. It really doesn't matter to me, because half the players that plays that game will be cut by Saturday. Kubiak gonna give them some time to impress other coaches, nothing special to watch.
 
if anyone wants to go to the game i'm selling my two tickets. sec.636 row C 11 &12 and a parking pass Orange lot. I dunno. $50 total for both tickets and the pass. Any takers?

They did show the game last year. It was on an HD channel though.

Will it be on the radio though?
 
Not sure how cedible this is but on the main saite there is a post by Nick, I think , and he says that the game is on CW 54 here , and they are moving it to CW in Htown due to the convention.

I just saw the commercial for it on the local CW 39 here in H-town. I will be at the game but I always record it and did not know 'til a few moments ago that ABC 13 was not carrying it and that it had been moved to CW 39.
 
If you have NFLN they are re-running it Friday morning at 8:00am Central and then again Sunday at 9:00am Central. Set yours or your friend's DVR accordingly.

Weird. I've been assured by CW Austin that they are NOT showing the game. I sent them the link to Nick's post on the other board. We'll see what they say.
 
I heard back from KNVA CW Austin - their General Manager says they will NOT be airing the game. Bummer, but I do appreciate CW picking up the first two games.

NO it is more like what we here in Austin have been dealing with for two years. Well the titans have a bye week so we will show the Texans. Then to look at ratings they will compare titans vs Colts to Texans vs Raiders and say well the rating were better for the titans.

If it is inevitable just sit back and enjoy it right?

But what does that have to do with CW? They weren't the one canceling our games, they picked it up our pre-season games when CBS decided to show the Cowboys over us. CBS is the one you're mad at, avert your anger to them.

But, if that post was meant for CBS then yea I agree they suck donkey nuts.
 
I always read these threads but never has been my probem, until now. Now that I am in San Marocs this could be very bad!

I do not care what channel the game is shown on. Put the damn thing on Lifetime or Oxygen for all I care just as long as it is on. Granted I would have to call Bill to find out where that is located at but at least I know someone who would know. Not that there is anything wrong with that. :smiliedance:

No not the whole town. I am sure the local weather channel is not at fault. What is wrong with thinking that a stating in Texas should show both the cowgirls and the Texans. Very easy concept.

I would not think that Dublin, Ohio would show cowgirl games over either Browns or Bengals.

Wait hold on - let me explain further. CW is not showing ANY game over the Texans. NBC is showing the Jags and Skins. The person I've been in contact with works at KXAN (NBC) and KNVA (CW) in Austin. They're in the same building and operate out of the same place. When I first emailed them, they thought I was talking about NBC - because I didn't realize that CW and NBC were in the same building.

CW isn't showing ANY game on Thursday. They just have their regular programming... sitcoms and whatnot. The CW decision has nothing to do with Skins/Jags or NBC or any of that.
 
I am glad you cleared that up for Spec, he has a short fuse sometimes and man I would not want to get him riled up anymore that he is.:specnatz:

Well, the thing is, one person decides what to put on during gameday. He can put anything he wants, the NFL doesn't enforce a rule that say "Only teams in the state can be broadcasted by the station thats in the same state". I guess we should blame whoevers in the NFL office that didn't make that rule.

Gary Vinsion is the one that choses which game he wants to play on sunday. I don't see how his decision reflects off the head dude over at CW. If CW was the official channel of the AFC, then maybe the head hancho would play Texans everyweek. No matter how bad they are or how low their ratings are, he might play them everyweek and it'll rest in his hand. Ohio might not show the Cowboys, but they could. It's up to their director. Most likely they will get their building burned down by an angry mob, but it's not illegal to not show them, it just wouldn't be very smart if it was in the team's own town.

Texans isn't in Austin team, if it was then the rating would be in single digit if they showed another team. Austin is Texas fan first, Cowboy fan second, and Texans fan third. It isn't like Texans blew both Cowboys/Titans out in ratings here in Austin. But maybe if it was the town of Houston then then the Cowboys/Titans rating would probably be close to 1%, in comparison, against the Texans. Vinision can show the Titans here in Austin and get away with it because people actually would tune in to watch their hometown college's hero play. If Titans were getting blown out by Texans in rating every time they compare them, then he'll probably have to show the Texans don't you think?

And if it was up to the fans, well going by your chart, we'll be shown everyweek. (didn't look at the chart, just assuming that we have better rating.)

But, it doesn't matter if we argue about it. It still won't change the fact that CBS42 can change the game schedule anytime.

I don't know if this post was directed towards me. But if it was then, I apologize if I come off alittle hot headed. I don't mean to try to put anybody down, just giving/disputing my opinions.

YES I know cw is not airing any games. BUT THE TEXANS ARE NOT BEING SHOWN PERIOD!!

NBC is showing ....... Jags vs Redskins
CBS is showing ....... Vikings vs cowgirls

Now tell me how F'n stupid is that. I understand why Houston is not getting the cowgirls and just as such I would suspect the Texans are not shown in dallas. I live in Austin which does not have a pro team so I should get both the Texans and cowgirls.

So excuse me if I am not happy that the team I root for and love is being screwed. Did not know I should not complain about MY TEAM not being shown.

Sorry I did not know I was supposed to be freak'n happy they are not going to be shown I will try and do better next time.

Do not even get me started on the ratings lie Gary shoves out. He took Titans/Cotls and compared it to Texans/Raiders I probably still have that email. So that line about the ratings was pure unadulterated crap. Not to mention the ratings for sports are so wrong it is not even funny. A single male can not get a box because of the fact it would screw the ratings for the TV shows.

Why isn't CW showing Texans today? Prime time television, I suppose. They're showing Smallville and Supernatural today, don't know if they have a contract to show them every Thursday or not. Either way I bet those shows would get better rating then the 4th pre-season game of the Texans.

ABC? I have no idea why they aren't showing th Texans this pre-season, contract end?

Anyways, you can't go bashing CW. If it wasn't for them you would've had to watch the Texans on CBS secondary channel.... if you had HDTV that is. Isn't a problem for me since I have HDTV, but how bout other Texans fan that doesn't? CW saved our butts the last two weeks, so you being ungrateful for it is so ignorant.

They didn't show the games on the KEYE secondary channel. Their contract for Texans pre-season games is kaput. It was CW or nothing at all.

They aren't showing it today for a reason, Smallville and Supernatural, is their money cows. What do they show around 7pm on Saturdays? Crap. Thats why they pick our games up, better rating. I dunno maybe ALL CW stations have to show Smallville/Supernatural on their regular time, maybe they have a contract for it. I don't know. But you shouldn't be an ass to them when they did was help us out.

I too had to go 40 minutes downtown to watch my team play. All that junk.

EDIT: That's why I'm grateful for CW showing our games. Like DIehard said it was either CW or nothing. CBS screwed us again and CW came to our rescue. Well atleast to my rescue, some fans didn't give a crap.

The live feed is working for me from that link for 420TV. Just make sure you download TVANTS...i paid the $3 to get it fast...otherwise it will take forever to download.

I've been listening to the game on radio - I didn't know there were people that couldn't find it... sorry, I should have posted. I'm listening on the stream from a College Station station. 1150 AM KZNE... they carry every single Texans game.
