Tailgate Injury Report

Shotgun 30 Time
Look...just like preseason is for the team, but its all for the tail gaters too. We are all bound to get hurt or do someting stupid. Injuries are worth bonus points

Here's the place you post which tailgating gear (and you can include people...but be nice) you have that is on Injured Reserve. Please explain what happened to your gear or your friend and if they will be able to make i back before the end of preseason (why or why not).

I'll start with one of us. On of our members went out on injured reserve by opening too many beers for us to shotgun. He missed 3 weeks wirh limited movemet of this thumb before he came back. Everyone is waiting to see if he is as 'strong' when he gets back to beer opening full time.

So what's your tailgating mishap? All Colors welcome!!:fans:

BTW - you could add someone hit my car...someone stole my beer....GET CREATIVE!!!

In tailgate camp earlier this year, my Texans canopy was put on the CUP ( canopy unable to perform list ). During a BBQ a freak storm came up and had one of its legs broken in two places. Am in search of a replacement before regular season starts.:texflag:

I had to place my canopy on the CUP list also. It wasn't from whenever the wind kicked up - as we were able to manage holding it down. The injury occurred while breaking down at around 6:00....

It was my second canopy in under 7 years. My next canopy will be purchased with highly incentive laden clauses (i.e. freakin' warranty).

Well, I guess my sweet little old canopy deserves an Olympic medal then. Been ridin around in the back of various trunks, trucks, and buses for going on seven years now, and STILL manages to "get it up" when it see's platinum!!:) Not quiet ready for the CUP list, just yet anyway!

I do have a MIA though!! A GIRL fan took my brand new TEXAN labeled ice chest TWO years ago and won't give it back!!:foottap: I've never been able to find another one like it either!! I just have to believe that little old ice chest worked it's magic and made that Cowboy see the light!:doot: Is that possible???:hmmm::zipit:

Maybe my canopy needs "the little blue pill"...? :foottap:

I am still suffering from PTTS(Post Traumatic Tailgate Syndrome) from the '06 Christmas Eve game against the Colts. I had severe frost bite from reaching into the ice chest waaaay too many times durring freezing temps. I have recovered physically, but mentally I am still working through it. When I close my eyes I can still see the 5-man shotgun 30's clear as day.

My portable gas grill is currently on the preseason PUP list. During offseason OTA's it was discovered the burner is clogged with grease from last season and needs to be scoped. Worst case scenario it may need full burner replacement surgery. We expect it to be ready by the home opener. By no means is this a carreer ending injury.

My camo pants had a sprained side pocket that's had a hole in it and it's getting bigger. I have to be very careful to remember not to put my keys or wallet in there, as a fumble of that magnitude could cost Team TDC a ride home.

But, they'll be o.k., as my wife is a good physical therapist and can work wonders with a needle and thread. The pants are expected to be ready for the Tampa Bay pre-season game.

Well, thank goodness it was a SIDE pocket!! Would hate for something else to be falling out!!

I have officially placed the "grill to go" on retired/inactive list and sent in the official retirement papers to the head office. After numerous grilling activities, she's got no flame left.

RIP, and hopefully you'll be a first ballot grill of fame inductee.

The finger nail on my right index finger was quite sore after opening so many beers at the first tailigate party. Typical overuse injury. It shouldn't affect gameday performance at future tailgates though. I just checked the depth chart and I'm stacked 10 deep at that position. One of them will be ready to play.

My flag pole and texan flag are now MIA due to a SOB walking around the ORANGE lot. The poles career is now done and must be replaced by a rookie.

It's partly my fault. It was the only piece of tailgating supplies that was not put away. DAMN!!!!

We seem to have the same problem with canopies that the Texans have had at LT.

We are currently on our FOURTH one. Now granted, Jungle Bob has been known to use them in off-season conditioning activities, and as a result, the weather took one of them out when he left it to the elements overnight. The other two that went to the CUP list were taken out in the line of duty. High winds caught both of them un-anchored in the yellow lot. They were brutal, ugly injuries, too. One of them got left on the field, obviously beyond rehab. The other was taken into a conditioning program by the Captain, replaced with a bionic leg, and currently handles light duty activities.

The current canopy is a second year vet, and the coaches are watching him closely. Since I drafted him, I take every precaution to prevent him from staying out late or performing in dangerous weather conditions. He also got an upgrade of 5-lb. anchors for each leg, and has a reinforced skeleton to maximize it's potential. I think *knocks on wood* that he should be our starting canopy for many years to come.

I forgot to report one Tailgate injury...

It was the second or third season. After the game and heading back to report for TUP, I stopped off to use a port-a-pot. Little did I know that if you catch your pinky finger in the door handle/lock in a funky manner, you can damn near rip it off... Unbeknownst to me, I had done that and not noticed until someone asked why there was a puddle of blood around my shoe...

After many weeks of therapy (both physical and mental), and band-aids I am happy to report that the pinky is doing fine...

I continued to report to the TUP several times afterward, but always remained cognizant of the dangers lurking in the port-a-pot...

.. and then?
Not an injury, but a release.

After 5 faithful tailgating seasons, never to miss a game - I was released to Dallas, now in my 2nd year in this city. Always hoping to end my tailgating career off 610, but for now I'll be playing in the pubs and dives of Dallas.

Better to have blood than something else around your shoes from the port-a-pot!

I've come close to falling off the coolers (standing on coolers stacked 2 high) at the tailgate on many occasions. Lately the crowd has been there to prevent it from being an ugly fall!

In season 1 or 2 we had a canopy flip over onto one of the members cars and it dented it pretty good... :)

Take two tailgates and call me in the morning. if it hasn't cleared up by then, repeat until all symptoms are gone.

If you were at the Bears/Texans game in Chicago 4 years ago, you would understand the meaning of COLD...I'm just hoping the game at GB this year is the same way...

First tailgate of the season and I'm already busting out the first-aid kit. Cut myself on a flagpole and then again reaching into my cooler for a beer. Yeah, you heard me right. I cut myself on the freaking ice in my coooler. I've since sent a letter to the Cuts Like a Knife Ice Company.

But unlike say an Ahman Green, I continued on with the tailgate and WILL be able to go next Thursday.

And I had a chair that bit the dust as well.

Seasons past, we've had canopies, chairs, and grills bite it.

I skinned up my knees and possibly broke a couple of fingers once slipping on the concrete playing football. I say possibly broke because I never went to the Dr. to find out.

We've had an unproperly secured canopy blow over and scratch up one of our trucks, another canopy took off and broke off one of our window flags. I've lost a bull logo magnet on the freeway.

The last game of the first season I had gotten food poisoning the day before the game, and still made it out, in line at 7:20, full tailgate, game and after tailgate. Didn't eat, tried to drink a beer and could only get about half of it down.

My Jeep broke down on 59 twice. The first time I got it started and made it to the tailgate, the 2nd time I had someone come get me, unloaded my vehicle and loaded theirs right there on the side of the freeway, and left the damn thing there.

Damn, didn't mean to write a book, but I guess 6 years of tailgating will do that.

Just signed a new canopy along with a Team Keg-a-que. Will be making their debut on Thursday 8-21-08 against Tampa Bay. In negotiations for 2 flag poles, but the GM says it may put us over the cap right now. May have to wait till around week 6. Will keep you posted. Oh by the way how many of you are in the blue lot????

I've got a couple of coolers that are gonna get cut due to poor performance on the grass. Next year I'm gonna draft the best cooler available....

I have been allocated away.

After one game being called up the big league for the Colts last season the team have decided to allocate me to NFL Europe, for some experience at grilling and partying pre and post game on a much smaller scale at the small hours of the morning due to the time difference, having spoke to head office they do see the potential here and have expressed a wish to call me up again sometime in the future.

FILO_girl

I'm not here
We have had some serious incidents in our corner of Orange.
First...last game of the '06 season enroute from Katy to Reliant under cover of darkness (First In must be very early!), The Bull vanished from the back of our truck. #300 lbs of ice in him too. How does an item THAT big get away unseen? At 5am?? Folks at the Shell station still aren't talking.

Next, had to cut the 1st string chair from the squad last season due to offseason injury. It was packed in the truck for a non Texans event (I don't want to hear it) by careless adult kids and when it was asked to be put into play...it couldn't pull its part, but it pulled apart. It is missed, as it was part of our original tailgating team.
RIP cush lawn chair, my back misses you!

Then there was that September afternoon in 2004 that rests in TEXANS infamous history.
boom boom boom....out go the lights.... :thisbig:

Ahhh yes. The day Reliant Stadium (and probably the entire grid around Reliant Park) was injured.....
Man, that was a funny day! I remember people around me laughing because the lights went out at Reliant Stadium, of all places. It was even more amusing when I learned the cause. :heh:

I put one canopy on the unable to perform list, I have since decided to cut the canopy, about 15 minutes after I put it on the unable to perform list.

I had the eyes pop out of my hat, went straight to the hat Dr. in the stadium but did not revive to a satisfactory condition for Game Day, Tried out the Rookie hat and wala Performed like a champ. I have officially cut the preseason disaster of a hat for a True Joe Texan original.

A couple members of Texan Mojo are sticking with the "wind blew it off the table story". I personally think one of the Chefs smashed it to pieces when Sage fumbled for the second time. I certianly wouldn't blame them if that were the case.

Preacher Man was a little late getting home from Colorado thanks to Continental's crappy flight schedule, an arrival even later than scheduled and an accident on I-45.

We lost a Tailgater Chair this weekend but nobody will take the blame.

Also it was the first time since 2002 that I officially puked while tailgating....woooohoooo!
