Tailgating 101 and game info

OK I am planning on attending my first-ever Texans game on Oct. 12 against the Dolphins...couple of questions:

1. Is anyone invited to tailgate? Since I don't know anyone up there, I don't want to crash someone's party or anything. And is it customary to pay $ when you visit a camp?

2. What's the best way of acquiring decent tickets? I plan to fly up the morning of the game with the wife, so I won't need to park or anything like that.

3. What's the best way to get to Reliant from the airport? Taxi?

Just wanted to get all my ducks in a row before I buy my stuff next week. I know I sound naive, but I've never been to an NFL game before (been a Texans fan since '02). Thanks for any help, it's greatly appreciated!:texflag:

Most everyone I have ever seen on here has open invitations to their tailgates, especially if you post on here. Just pick which lot you want to hang out in and post in their tailgate planning threads. Since you are flying in and probably won't be bringing food, drinks, etc. You may need to chip in a few bucks if you feel like. Again, some of the tailgates won't allow you to pay, they take good care of fellow fans. Some of the guys on here like the Blue Crew (Platinum lot), TexansFan2002114 (Yellow lot), Doubel Barrell (Yellow lot), Speedy & Texans Mojo (Yellow lot), etc. have all invited me and everyone else who wants to come by at one time or another when I was looking for a tailgate to crash. You really can't go wrong, everyone is a lot of fun!

Start with posting here in the Ticket forum. I am not sure if I am going to that game or not yet, my nephew is getting married in DFW around that time, so I may be selling mine. If you can't find them on here, then Ebay or Stubhub.

3. What's the best way to get to Reliant from the airport? Taxi?

Sorry, don't know.

Don't worry about it, I really hadn't tailgated that much before last season despite having gone to a few games, you will get hooked instantly, it is an awesome experience, everyone is very friendly and welcoming, it's like a huge neighborhood party. As far as the football experience, you will not regret it, it is absolutely fantastic :texflag:

My responses are in blue.

Most of the Tailgates are open. You are more than welcome to come to the Raging Bull Tailgate, visit the website on my sig to see some pics etc. We usually have a take a plate leave a tip deal. Just because everything we have comes out of pocket from the members of the tailgate.

I would see whats available through the main ticketing sites like Ticketmaster. If you cant find any there go to the secondary sites like StubHub. Also post on the forum to see if anyone has extra tickets they may have available. We have been sitting in 516 since 2002 and enjoy the view of the field.

If you are coming in Hobby then a taxi wouldn't be too bad (http://www.reliantpark.com/directions/). IAH is a bit farther, depending on your timing, you could take a taxi downtown and ride the lightrail to the stadium (http://www.ridemetro.org/Services/Rail.aspx), it would probably save you a few bucks and you would avoid traffic in and out of the stadium. I haven't gone from either of the airports to the stadium, so you may want to do some more research on that.

You will have an unforgettable time. Good Luck! Go Texans

Also, taxis suck. Get a Town Car limo. The incremental cost is minimal. Well worth it in my opinion, especially since you have a chick with you.

i did this when i went to houston for the TNT game last year. It was recommended by my hotel as they didn't have a shuttle service. It was expensive but i didn't have to worry about taking the rail system or anything else. As I had some luggage this made it easy.

ps i wouldn't say it was a limo but it was a private towncar

A taxi from Hobby to Reliant will likely cost $40. A town car will cost $60-70. You're already paying $40 for a dirty, beat-up, POS Chevy Lumina or Dodge Caravan with a hairy foreign driver who will talk constantly on a cell phone in a foreign language and listening to strage music on the radio. For and extra $30 you can have travel in a nice, new, quiet Town Car with plush leather seats driven by a suit-clad gentleman who is trained in customer service. It's a no brainer really, especially when you can amortize the enjoyment over more than one occupant.

If you want good seats at a reasonable price, just show up at any gate at 11:40 and put two fingers in the air. You'll find good seats at less than face value.

What time is the flight, if it is before the gate opens I could try to pick yall up so you would not have a hefty taxi bill, Probably drop you back off at the hotel or airport whichever is nesessary. Also hotels have shuttles from the airports just to throw that out there.

Wow, thanks, Joe. We're looking to get in on a flight about 9:30 or so...but the thought is certainly appreciated...
