Fred Weary on IR

Good luck to the guy, he has been here through the tough times, its ashame he will not be with us for the good times.

Man, I hate that! I'm a softy for our originals, even Petey, and he really ticks me off sometimes!!

Fred's had nothing but bad luck the last couple years.
I dunno, but guess Briesel now has virtually no real competion as the teams starting RG ?

our OL:

Brown, Pitts, Myers, Briesel, Winston

Butler, Frye, Studdard, GWhite...... Salaam if we keep 10.

I was hoping Weary could be our 10th. Maybe he'll be back for us next season.

I hope he gets healthy and gets to make a comeback. Best of luck to you Fred.

And then the reality of another offensive lineman lost to injury sets in. :cry2:

Just face it if he is healthy he makes the team. For better or worse he is not a bad option, not a great one mind you but not a bad one.

Sucks to see another lineman lost because of injury. Best of luck to him.

I find it hard to believe that the Texans would simply reach a settlement and walk away from him after the way he's played for us in recent years. Fred Weary and Chester Pitts were both asked to do too much as rookies and Fred was the one who wasn't up to it. He took a lot of heat in the first couple of seasons but he finally came into his own once Kubiak got here. I always thought that Capers had something against him from early in his career and that had something to do with his inability to break into our starting lineup consistently. Kubiak and Sherman had no such history with him and he played his butt off for them.

If he can heal and come back near what he was then I hope he sticks around. If he can't then I hope the Texans are generous with his injury settlement. We paid Boselli millions to not play. We paid David Carr millions more to play poorly. We kept Bennie Joppru on the team for damn near the life of his contract just about and never got a snap out of him in the regular season. The least that Bob McNair can do is show some appreciation for a guy who has pulled his own weight from the very beginning.

If I were the Texans I would pay the man for this year, leave him on IR, and deal with reaching an injury settlement at the end of the year if it looks necessary (unless they already know that he's not going to make it back for us).

If he is a goner, I give him credit for the time and effort he put into this team. Besides his run in with the law he always seemed to be a pretty good guy. I wish him the best.

With Weary's injury and the fact that Butler clearly has passed Salaam as the swing tackle, Frye now makes the team because of his ability to play guard and tackle. If we don't keep Frye, the situation dictates keeping 10... If we keep 10, then both Frye and Salaam make the team.

although i differ in that i don't find it hard to believe that they would cut him off and move on, i agree with you in the thinking that it would make sense to keep him on for a year. He signed back for next to nothing if i'm not mistaken and he has potential. maybe he can be the guy we sit around talking about all off season? "how's weary progressing? is he gaining strength back in his leg?..."

no question the Texans are becoming less and less gushy gushy, warm and fuzzy. win. just win (but do it nicely) baby.

More than likely, the issue is that Weary doesn't want to go on the IR. He feels he'll be ready to play at some point in the season. The agreement would be to allow Weary to seek other employment in '08, I think.

I think this situation stinks. I like Weary. I'd like to see him continue to be a part of the Texans. But I guess if he can't contribute, there's nothing else to do.

Shoot.

I was listening to the Kubiak Show and he said that he fully expects Fred to be back. He said it was a surgery related issue that had something to do with the pins in his legs. Thats good news, hes an original and I hope he can stick around.

This makes no sense because he has a one year deal and at the end of the year there is no injury settlement because he would already have earned his 800k by virtue of being on the IR and his current contract expires on March 1 *unless he is moved to waived-INJ which appears to be the case.

This is more in line with what I think is going on. The Texans can also re-sign him at some point - just can't recall the procedure off the top of my head.

You're right. I'd forgotten about the one year deal.
