The words to describe Kolb at this time are consistency, discipline, and experence. The physical talent is there.
Taking experence first.
Kolb has been in camp from day one. Works 90% of the time against the Eagles first team defense. Reid let him know up front that he was the number 2, and Kolb was expected to do the job. He has done this. He receives a ton of time throwig and running the offence.
Leaving Kolb in the the full second half against Carolina shows that Reid wants Kolb to get as many looks as possible against a different defense. It will be interesting to see how soon Ried uses Kolb against New England this week any if he gets the whole game in the final against the Jets.
They started him last year with a "dink and dunk" passing game. The Eagles use this a lot, but it seemed to me that they limited the longer throws. This camp, Kolb has thrown a lot on deeper passes. The TD pass to Lewis in the Caro. game has been worked on a lot in camp.
Consistency.
Kolb has been very good in learning and running the offense. He is "in charge"
There are problems here, however.
K.K. at times holds the ball too long. The so call "clock in his head" as to when to get rid of the ball is not totally developed. One play the ball will be out at the right time, the next he will hold it too long.
He also at times has problems getting his feet set. Will throw before being compleatly set. This gets into some kind of side arm throw, which leads to a low, short throw. K.K. had been interesped a lot in camp off these throws. He has to work on when to get rid of the ball and his footwork.
Discipline
Kolb has a "gunslinger attitude", which is fine, but at times he will force the ball to the "wrong" receiver. Sometimes he gets away with it. An example of this.
In camp Kolb threw a 30 yard td pass to Lewis. The problem was Lewis was triple covered. The pass was outstanding, but if this same pass is thrown against Dallas in the regular season, it is picked off.
The more I watch Kolb, I get a feeling about something that I can't prove and will not know until the time comes. That feeling is this kid is going to beat you somehow. It comes from his body language, his dedication to learning from his mistakes. He is always talking to the coaches, going over what went wrong and why it went wrong. He works to improve.
Time will tell how good Kolb will become. He will not be used this year unless it is necessary, but if something happens to McNabb, Kolb will be the qb.
