Junior Varsity?

Did anyone catch NFL Total Access tonight? Jamie "you gonna eat that?" Dukes dissed the Texans for all who missed it.

His remark was that the Broncos were moving from the "junior varsity", playing the Texans, to "varsity", playing the Cowboys.

Kubes, please post this on the team bulletin board for next week.

Charles Barkley long-lost brother?

If thats the case, then you can pretty much take anything he said and expect the opposite.

Would anyone be nearly offended if they said another good team that had a better record then us other then the cowboys?

Now if they said Titans I'd be offended.:kingkong:

Y'all give ole Jamie a break, his blood sugar was probably low. Just pop in a Krispy Kreme Jamie, you'll feel right as rain.

Eh.. its not the best metaphor..but it is understandable.

Ask anyone in the media.. and probably alot of folks around houston.. who has the stronger team right now, the Texans or the Cowboys...and most will probably say the cowboys. They did have a great record last year and they did make the playoffs. They also have alot of "star power"..and people think that having notable names means you have a notable team.

But.. his metaphor wasnt that they were moving from pee-wee to varsity.. it was that they were moving from jr varsity, to varsity.. meaning..."one step up".

The problem is that when you refer to a professional team as "varsity"..it is an insult by itself... so really.. both the Texans and the Cowboys could take offense to that.. but i doubt that is the context he intended it in.

Junior Varisity will never ever be taken as anything but an insult in any walk of life. (with the exception of someone who is actually on the Jr. Varsity)

Like it or not after going 32-64 over 5 years the Texans name has become synonomous with losing. Just look at the comments of Peter King (fanbase) and Mike Golic (comparing to Cowboys). Some national folks just wont get on board until the Texans start winning consistantly. Then they will be in the I told you so crowd

I like Dukes because he has actual opinions and isn't afraid of them and admits when he is wrong....he's kinda entertaining too. I don't read too much into this comment really...we are a team that has never had a winning season. Once we start winning perhaps this would be some kind of disrespect but right now its just stuff that comes along with being a non-winning team.

At first I was mad but like others have said it comes with the territory of not having a winning season. Until we have a winning season it will be something we have to endure. Jamie knows what it's like to play for JV, he was a undrafted FA that signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 1986.

Atlanta Falcons record 1986-1990
1986 7-8-1
1987 3-12* strike shortened season
1988 5-11
1989 3-13
1990 5-11

and finished his career with the Arizona Cardinals that finished 4-12 in 1995.

He has done his time.:kingkong:

I was watching when Dukes 'ate his crow' about Mario. He gave Mario huge props about the way he handled the whole VY/RB thing.

There is enough cloth in Dukes' coats to make me an entire suit. :D

I also find the guy entertaining.

Yea you're right Vinny. I don't know who this guy is but people don't know much about the Texans right now on a national basis...I mean they know the players and all but in comparison to many teams they are just another team.

Winning is the only thing that gets you any kind of respect from the media.

Sure, until we win we won't get the wide respect that many are looking for. That being said, guys like Dukes with loud opinions and presenting themselves as experts should feel a greater responsibility towards accuracy. Any educated and studied football person would see that this Texan team certainly belongs in the "same league".

I don't get particularly upset by these comments mainly because of my lack of respect for these heads.

Besides, isn't the NFC the junior varsity league. I'd love to switch divisions and certainly conferences with Dallas. It'd be interesting to see those guys navigate thru our JUNIOR VARSITY schedule.

No kidding the Cowpokes looked pathetic!

They'll be up for us. They don't like losing to us any more than we to them. And we'll get a good test because the 1st strings from both teams should play the entire first half. I'll looking forward to this.

I HATE THE COWPIES
I HATE THE COWGIRLS
I HATE THE COWBOYS

Just thought I would mention that I hate them. :texflag:

I think Dukes sees it as most fans, casual fans see it. On the surface we have a lot of balls in the air. We drop a couple of them we'll be drafting high once again. Most talented team we've ever had. They are going to have to catch lightening in a bottle for everything to come together. No one in their wildest dreams would have projected Brown to be where he is with his development two games into the pre season. Not even the guru. A ball in the air...the week before the first game Brown slips on the bar of soap in the shower and Butler and or Frye have to go at OLT the first two weeks. Salaam is unavailable.

Absurd ?...this week the brownies Stallworth was horsing around with Edwards while they were doing their wind work after practice. Edwards took off his shoes and when Stallworth went to trip him up he hit Edwards foot instead...he's down for a while with a gash in his heel. With Edwards they are the hottest young team in the league. With out him, they are good , but not play off good.

I generally like Dukes, the few times I have seen him. Do not get NFLN yet cause of the stupid ass corporate fighting. He was funny and seemed to laugh at himself when he was wrong especially when he was way wrong.

With that said, if he is going to call the Texans the Jr. Varsity and the cowgirls the Varsity, what would that make the geldings? PeeWee? Cause we destroyed them last year in a regular season game and we did win the other night as well. That would be where I find slight in what he said. In other words another comment by someone in the media not based on recent knowledge.

You should never refer to an NFL team as Junior Varsity. That's like saying they don't even belong in the NFL, IMO. Also, it's not as if the texans were a 2 or 3 win team last season. They were an average team, right in the middle of the pack. 8-8 Hardly qualifies as JV, even in comparison to the NFL elite. Cool guy, moronic statement.

Maybe Dukes was only talking about Texas teams??

HOU - JV of Texas
DAL - Varsity team of Texas (Soon to be reversed)

I really hate the cowgirls... especially jerry jones. I only like when we are playing them because I am absolutely certain I will get to see the game. Preseason or not both sides will be playing hard. Bring it on and let's see what happens but please take Reeves with you when you go!
