To celebrate Vince Young is to celebrate greatness.

You sense you are in the presence of greatness the moment he enters a room. Adults and children are in awe. Teammates love him, opponents respect him. There will never be another one like him.


Vince Young did things on a football field that made grown men cry. He brought happiness to millions, made their boring lives worth living. He wore orange, but Tech fans, Aggie fans, UH fans, all fans rooted for him as if he was their own. Such was his greatness.

He made an entire state--and probably an entire nation--feel good about itself. All Vince Young has been to Texans is everything.

That's why nothing that happens this year in sports will be as emotionally powerful as what The University of Texas has planned for August 30. That's when Vince Young's jersey No. 10 will be retired by the Longhorns.

I'm probably like a lot of you in that when I'm feeling down or have had a bad day at work I put in the DVD of that Rose Bowl. No matter how many times I watch it, I'm still inspired by it, moved by it.

It makes me want to work harder, to accomplish more. It makes me want to make Vince proud.

I know a lot of people were proud and happy when Texas won the National Championship but give me a break. The man isn't god.

Oh I know he is, just like he does with all his other blogs. This one seems beyond ridiculous though even by his standards.

As a fan of UT, them being my favorite college team, and someone who really enjoyed the VY era during those college years let me say, this is the most idiotic, man-love drivel I have ever read. The day VY left the school and into the pro's he became the enemy. I still appreciate those years and that championship season but this crap makes me sick. Get a freaking life justice. I am so sick of hearing about VY. Of course I like pro football tons more than college ball, and he has not did crap since college.
 
It's really creepy seeing a 50-something newspaper hack write something that fawning about a kid two years removed from college. Vince, if Justice offers you candy a ride somewhere, JUST SAY NO and go get the nearest adult.

By the night of the UT-USC game, I had been a Texas resident for a decade. I tried really, really hard to make myself root for the Horns that night, but I just could not do it--the fact that God's next chosen son played quarterback for the burnt orange eleven that night made no difference to me.

Get a hold of yourself, man.

VY jock jumpers are like David Carrs little brother. They have to defend him on a message boards because they know he hasn't shown it on the football field and they are getting steadily more defensive about his ineptitude as his career "advances". Vince Leafs claim to faim is betting us. Big woop. As sad as it is to say it, the Texans have lost over 60 games in 6 years. Most starting QBs in the league have beaten us. At this point in time it is debatable whether or not he will even be a starting QB in the NFL in 3 years much less a the HORer some would like us to believe he already is. Right now he is junk. A bottom tier QB that is still living on the hype of a college game.

Yes, this quote from the article makes you question just how inspired he is and what exactly he does with his inspiration. I have never heard it called that before. Should someone remind him it can make you go blind? :dontknowa

Michael Phelps would agree. When Tiger won the US Open on a broken leg, his first thoughts were of Vince Young. Eli Manning wore #10 in the Superbowl in honor of Young.

vince was dynamic, but like 17 players on that texas roster were either drafted or invited to a camp, i'm not a UT fan but that TEAM was somthing special. best college game i ever seen. that team could play with any national champ

It's too early to say. While he's shown himself to be a winner, he struggled last year and has been inconsistent in training camp and the preseason.

Which has produced some criticism.

Which he has not handled well.

Some of us who've been around him in Nashville struggle to understand that.

Maybe someday he will, but so far Young's not doing the sort of things as a Titan that warrant such love letters. And when he's still getting them back in Texas for what he did as a Longhorn, it's got to make it that much harder for him to be critiqued on what he's doing now and to understand why.

He's a work in progress. He's got a 17-12 record as an NFL starter. He's got a playoff appearance on his resume. He's got a new offensive coordinator who's going to be a big help. He's got a pretty good team around him.

And he's got a level of affection in Austin and Texas that Nashville and Tennessee may simply never be able to match.
