Faggins

Joe Texan

Inducted 04
Do we really have to sit through another season where he will make some great hits, but get burned for a winning TD, or two in the process.

I am old school and if you do not practice you do not play (chris)

If you cannot read a coverage and your in the defensive backfeild then you do not play. Come on Peety, get your head out in the sunlight and play football or get off the feild.

Its funny, despite what alot of us around here (including me I guess) think of his game, I can't keep but wondering if we are missing something big. Two different coaching staffs have kept him on the team; There's got to be SOME reason, something that we as 'regular' fans do not see?

Petey is a hard worker who will play anywhere the coach wants him to. He just doesn't posess the talent necessary to be a starting CB in the NFL.

Considering that he's been on the Texans roster since year 1, he's accomplished more than most 6th round picks.

He's the guy that knows "how to get things."

Just guessing.

I have absolutely no problem with him being our #4 CB... and that's BEFORE Dunta comes back. Molden will probably leapfrog him during the season, and Fletcher I'm sure already has.

Reeves
Bennett
Fletcher
Faggins
Molden

PUP Robinson

The Roberson (?) kid sounds like he's really playing well and may make the 53 man roster.

I'm not a HUGE fan of Faggins but I will stand up for him and say if I was running the team, he'd still have a spot. But he may have a hard time making it next season if Robinson, Reeves, Bennett, Fletcher and Molden are all playing better than him.

He is not a star but he's good enough to be on the team at least for this season we'll see about next.

At least untill the other guy really start blending together. I can almost promise you JT that next season or the season after the Texans will not need him.

You're forgetting the common variable throughout those two different coaching staffs - Bob McNair. Maybe Faggins has naked pictures of him or something. :splits:

Remember a couple of years ago, the 2006 season, when the Texans defense had a rough start but were a top 10 defense over the last 10 games? Everyone on the team (especially Kubiak and Dunta) attributed the change to Petey Faggins coming back from an injury and stepping into the starting lineup.

I don't know what happened last year but Faggins definitely wasn't the same player in 2007 that he was in 2006. I have never felt that he was a quality starting CB, but he can be a quality nickle or dime back. He might have a hard time making the team if they only keep 4 CB's, but if they keep 5 one of them will definitely be Faggins.

hes a solid nickle/dime CB that is loyal to the franchise and cheap.. with alot of character and a good work ethic.

He has also made alot of good plays.. people just dont care when you play correctly.. they just like the ***** when you make a mistake.

Barring any significant change... Reeves, Bennett and Molden are guaranteed locks for the team. Then when Dunta comes back he is almost guaranteed to be active unless he's really not doing well. So there are 4 CB's for the last 10 games with 1 coming off significant injury and not having played in a game for 12 months and another that is a raw rookie. I simply cannot see us only carrying 4 CB's throughout the season- I'm banking on 5 (Fletcher & Faggins). Then when Dunta comes back they either cut a player at another position and carry 6 cb's, cut either faggins or fletcher, or put Dunta on IR if he's not doing well.

Faggins is far from being a Pro Bowler, but he's solid. He makes a ton more good plays than bad, we just notice the one or two bad plays per game even if he blanketed his receiver for the rest of the game.

Petey is 38, lost a step and is getting 1.1 million when his skills demand $500,000. He might be depth right now but my question was:

can we go through another season of good Faggins play when, oops, he gets burned for a game winner 1 or 2 times this season.

I say we cannot handle the risk of losing a game near the end and I think if he is in other teams will pick on him.

This is a business and buisness is always better when your winning.

I understand he is a veteran and if he is there to warm the bench he seems a little too expensive.

Petey is 29, not 38. His number is 38 so maybe you are getting confused
Petey has not lost a step in my opinion
He is a nickle or dime corner. He isn't covering the #1 guy unless people are injured

I think he is definately worth 1.1 million, especially when we aren't having any cap issues and there is no one better out on the market. Why cut him now? Save a few hundred thousand bucks that we don't spend on anyone else better doesn't make sense. He has looked good in preseason and camp.

Unfortunately we are still VERY thin in this area, therefore, he's gonna see playing time. I just hope it's not a Lee Evans situation again, the whole league has that game tape on how to burn Petey.

OMT, this is spot on imo! Barring any unexpected injuries this is the scenario I think will probably play out and makes the most sense. It would be too risky to go into the regular season with a rookie and 2 other only slightly experienced players (Reeves & Bennett) and Dunta on the sidelines. I think Faggins is safe, at least until Dunta is back. JMHO!

AHA! That's the 'thing' he's got ;)

I would really like a copy, I could be 3rd backup for Kris Brown or something! Paycheck here I come!

Will Dunta play this season?
