Spencer back? (maybe???)

Absolutely no chance.

Spencer was cut because he isn't in shape. He has since been cut by Carolina for the same reason. And there's no way that's changed in the past week. No way we'd bring him back right now
 
I find it hard to believe that he'd come back to camp out of shape if that leg was healthy. It just seems to me, that if the leg were healthy, he'd be in shape.
 
id understood it to mean that he'll get a place on our practice squad once final cuts are made and will hopefully work his way back to fitness there (ie it wont affect any of the 80 already here)
 
Spencer was always just a huge guy even before he broke his leg. He's not one of those offensive linemen who has trouble keeping the weight on. He's one of those guys who can turn into a 360 pounder in about ten minutes if he isn't careful.

If he can get in shape and drop the tonnage then he can absolutely come back to my team if I'm the person making the decisions. It's just that we don't have roster spots to stash projects like we used to and Charles Spencer is nothing more than a long term project in the best case scenario now. It's a crappy situation all the way around but he's almost going to have to spend a good part of this season working his butt off on his own to get to the point where he can even get into a camp and compete for a spot.

Assuming his leg isn't holding him back at this point then he's probably looking at being out of football for almost all of this year and working to get his weight down to where someone will give him a shot at camp in 2009.

If we put him on our practice squad and he spends all season getting into shape somebody is going to come along and say "What does Charles Spencer weigh right now? Oh really?" and then sign his svelte butt to a contract. It would be like us to pay him to get in shape for somebody else but I'd still hate to see it happen.

im pretty sure we'll know when hes ready to play football again first.. and even if your scenario played out im sure charles would give us first refusal on signing him after all the time and help we gave him

He could deny it, like Kenneth Pettway denied to get signed off the practice squad to the Jaguars a few years ago. Though it should be mentioned he is with the Jaguars.
 
Owning teams can counter-offer when another team tries to sign one of their players off the ps. But that means the player must be signed to the 53 by the 'winner.'

therein lies the problem
dunno if he can't do the roadwork because of the leg or he just can't control his diet
either way, its cost him two jobs.
 
I'm just going by what McClain said. If Smith is calling the agent and disscussing "it", then I gotta figure there is more than smoke here. I dunno, but the guy is eligible for the PS . Reading between the lines with the back up o-line problems...if he's eligible for the PS why not? The key is will the guy have a come to Jesus moment and decide he is committed and not just participating. Same as Okam. They wouldn't of spent the fifth on Okam if they weren't convinced he was committed to helping the team get over the hump. They aren't going to carry Spencer unless he can make a major change in attitude. It's Spencer's job to make himself uncutable. You wanna sell tires at Sears or do you wanna ball ?

I don't know if he's in denial or what. He was drafted on day one and got a starting job as a rook, so he didn't truly have to struggle to get his spot (see Anthony Maddox). Well, there's a new O-line sheriff in H-town and he likes his posse to be in shape and mobile.
