It's hard not to respect the hell out of a guy who brings his hard hat to work everyday. He's going to be worth every penny come extension time.

I've been thinking about that for awhile. It's going to be a really hard day for us Texans fans when these guys are due for a raise and we can't afford it, having to let some guys go. (Not saying they'll let Demeco go)

I think one thing that's great is the type of MEN we're getting, not just the type of football players. Mario, Dre, Demeco, etc. Not only does their production on the field warrant the team to secure them long-term, but their character on and off the field and everything that goes along with that. When they have the TOTAL package, those are the guys you simply cannot afford to let leave your team for any reason. I think we're getting more and more of these types of guys and we're going to do our best to keep them on the Texans forever.

i'm curious who our "can't loose 'em" guys are?

I know it's the NFL and everyone is expendable depending on the situation and it's hard to say what our situation will be a few years from now but just for fun, let's see who we all think are the gotta keep 'em guys.

I"m going with

Johnson
Williams
Ryans
Winston

those are guys you lock up for good.
If Schaub plays to his potential this season I'll add him but that's speculation. right now he doesn't fall into the "sure thing" catagory like these guys do.

What do ya'll think?

I'd agree with you pretty much. I put Andre Johnson, Mario Williams, and Demeco Ryans in a class by themselves though as the Tier 1 Grade A Cornerstones of the Franchise.

Then there are others like Winston, probably Schaub, Amobi, etc. that I still think need to prove themselves more. I wouldn't put Winston as that top level yet but he's definitely up there. Of course, I think the easiest positions to really marquee as franchise type of positions are QB, WR, RB, LT, DE, MLB and CB. The other positions just don't have quite the 'glamour' but they can easily be the kind you need to treat similarly though.

Then should we include Dunta Robinson, even though he's PUP'ed right now?

In a year or so Fred Benmnet and Antwaun Molden will be in that category too.

I would have put Dunta in the category if he had a strong season last year and didn't get injured. Now he's a complete unknown so it's too early for me to put him in the AJ, MW and DR class.

Bennett has looked absolutely great and if he continues to get better over this season and into next... he may get to that point. Molden on the other hand, we're only hoping he gets to Bennett's point. We've seen absolutely nothing from him except for a few good practices- it's way too early to even guess on him.

I love Dunta. He's hands down my favorite Texan. But this league is a tough one. There is no loyalty when it comes down to it. At this stage, unfortunate as it is, he is no longer potentially "must keep". Due to his injury we had to aquire depth at the CB position. And if that all pans out then his role become much less important. If, god forbid, the depth doesn't pan out and he returns to being our only decent corner then yes, he becomes "must keep". He's a heart and sole type of player with good skills. But I don't see that being the case. I hope we don't loose him any time soon and I hope that he returns from his injury as good or better than he was before. But due to the depth at his position he is just another good player for us now.

Mario Williams- quite literally the top DE in the entire NFL, I think the fact the Texans showed faith in him (drafted #1 overall) goes along way in the trust factor. will be a 100 million + creative contract that gets it done
Andre Johnson- think Rick Smith already locked him up for a while?
DeMeco Ryans- deserves top 5 LB pay in NFL, a team player who if approached right would accept a hometown discount to reamain here
Amobi Okoye- nothing but upside, would like to get him under contract sooner than later
Duane Brown- rookie I know but I have confidence in him & Rick Smith/Alex Gibbs to develop him into a franchise LT
Eric Winston- the other bookend
Owen Daniels- remember a TE less Houston Texans? fits scheme
Dunta Robinson- he will return @ some point, good as new
