Now That Brett Is Coming Back

What will the Packers do now?

If The Packers are playing to win this year (and why not , they were only a couple plays away from a Superbowl last season in a weak NFC) they play a HOF QB over a guy who has a grand total of 218 yard passing ..... If they are building for the future they play the unknown and see what they get in a top 10 draft pick next year.

You should have added this option to the poll:

"They will do whatever Brett and Goodell want them to do."

Sorry, guys. I'm being a turd about this. I just don't think this is fair or appropriate. The Packers wanted to move on, but they weren't allowed. How warped is THAT? LOL. Oh well.

I guess it helps "ratings" and puts the eyes on the NFL.

2nd stringer behind Brohm. Rodgers suck and Bret is a over-the-hill 40 something year old brat.

I vote - another Brett thread? Sigh...

PS
He doesn't have to "agree" to be the backup.

I am with you.

I would also like to say; How can you come back if you never really left? He was a QB at the end of last year and apparently he will be one at the beginning of this year too.

Of course the Packers could have moved on. They could have released him. They got smart again all of a sudden and are letting their best QB play again.
They'll move on again. Right back to the playoffs.....

I'd trade him but if he is on the team I think they will call it a competition but give Rodgers the job and let Favre sit.

So if Brett tanks this season, then what? If he throws 20 ints by mid-season and the pack are 0-8 will the fans and talking heads shut up and let the staff do what they do? It's almost like these guys are in a fail fail scenario. If he succeeds then everyone will say see I told you so; if he fails then everyone will say well why didn't you trade/stick to your guns?

I don't know about that Frog. A 12 million $ backup and a fan favorite riding the pine? Either way, it's a lose lose situation for the Pack. If Brett starts you'll likely lose Rodgers. If Brett doesn't start you'll likely piss off fans and dump 12 mill.

IMO, Rodgers isn't good enough to beat Brett out in an honest position battle. Even if he's given the job, he'll likely be injured at some time.

will be interesting if Favre has a good season and the Pack goes and wins the Super Bowl and he breaks the curse ...what a legacy that would leave
to retire on

I'm about Favred out. Last night watching the Hall of Fame game and they showed live footage of his Private jet landing at the airport in Green Bay has me tired of this whole soap opera.

There is a large probability that you are right. I just can't stand the the little attention whore right now and I get this feeling that the Pack was really ready to move forward because of Rodgers off season sessions and his work with the team. Yeah, it will cause problems but if Favre sux it will cause problems also. I just want him to go away.

The oversaturation of this story is the media's doing....that same media that is putting 14 million in Brad Pitt's bank account for the first pictures of his newborns.

It's just the way it is these days. There is a market for this stuff otherwise they wouldn't do it.....although I read to the contrary statement like this boards..."I am so tired of all this", etc.

People are eating this stuff up.

he's starting, lol. Seriously I think this "beef" between the greenbay front office and Brett was done intentionally to not piss off Aaron Rodgers. I think the front office wanted to make it look like they were doing everything in their power to make Rodgers the starter when in reality they always wanted brett back.........seriously how do u go from being given 25 million dollars to "stay away" while claiming "aaron's our guy" to "the position is up for grabs".........either way as a packers fan I'm happy as hell this morning.

He's Brett Fricikn Farve!! He can do whatver he wants.

If the Pack doesn't like it....cut him. Cut him or STFU and roll to the playoffs again.

Start Rodgers and kharma will bite you in the arse!

And you CAN get a #1 for Rodgers. You can't get a 7th for Farve.

I agree with this too. Although we do not know the entire story that began after the Packers season, I think both sides were at fault at some point or another.

And yes...I'd like the Favre saga to cease and desist.

Bench.

Why Farve would want to come back to a team that clearly doesn't want him is beyond me. Personally, I hope he gets traded to a team the Texans play and that Mario knocks his block off.

I assume that you are talking draft picks here? Do you honestly think that any NFL team would give up a first round pick for Rogers?? They would only be so lucky to get a 3rd rounder for Rogers. Rogers is just a guy that was over hyped before the the draft for a while, and then he ended up slipping far into the first round which really wasn't a surprise. He hasn't proven anything in the NFL, and no one has even seen him play but two and half quarters in a Cowboys game last year where he played well.

You think an NFL team would give up a first rounder for that? NFL teams are not stupid, and Rogers could likely be a bust just as he could be a good franchise QB. The fact of the matter is that no one really knows.

The fact that a lot of people keep saying that the Packers are ruining their future is what i have found funny for a while. They might be, but they might not be. No one has seen Rogers enough in a season to make an accurate judgement like that.

Ive been up in Wisconsin the Past few Days everyone is pretty sick of this whole deal. However the way Rogers has been looking David Carr might be a better option at QB. At one point during the "Family Night" scrimmage on Sunday Rogers must have had about 12 straight incompletions. Either the Defense for the Packers is going to be really REALLY Good or Rogers is not so good.

Based on that I dont see anyone giving up much more than a 5th rounder mx if (WHEN) Favre beats out Rogers.

No doubt! I felt the same way and was fully expecting an update of Favre's next bowel movement. I turned the tv off just in case they tried to break that story next.

Never look at BF the same way again! Don't care if he leads the Packs to the SB this year, I will never feel the same way about him as I did in the past. Everyone has an opinion, and YEA, all we know is what the pathetic media dishes out to us, but, regardless, it's an insane saga, caused by HIM!!!!!

I think there are suckers who will bite on the hype.

Not for a first round draft pick they wouldn't. The fact of the matter is that Aaron Rogers has no hype. He has done nothing, and is unproven. Calling Rogers the future to anything is laughable, because no one knows what he is or isn't capable of. He has no experience, but playing in practice for years and anyone can look good in practice. I remember hearing about how great David Carr was in practice. Who cares. It's what happens in games that matter, and Rogers has no experience in games.

No team would even give up a 2nd round pick for Rogers I can assure you. I doubt that anyone would even give up a third rounder, because the only thing Rogers has going for himself right now is that he's had a lot of NFL practice for a few years. Hell, for all we know Rogers could be worse than David Carr for a 16 game season. We've only seen two quarters out of the guy, and I saw David Carr look good for 2 quarters plenty of times.

You could have inserted "Matt Schaub" in place of Rodgers 2 yrs ago. At least some decent pick(s) for him? Can I at least have that? I still say someone may take a chance. Good for you that you disagree.

Schaub had seen quite a bit of playing time. Vick had gotten hurt a few different times where Schaub got to show that he could make things happen, and just about every time that Schaub got his chances on the field he played well.

I actually thought that Schaub should have started at the end of the last season where Vick was still there and so did a lot of people other than the Vick lovers in ATL.

Rogers has only played 2 and a half quarters. No team would take a risky gamble on that.

I do know that Brett does not have to agree to be the back up QB but that was not really my point. I also know that Brett will be the Packers starting QB again this season and prove all of you that say that Brett is just too old to play just plane wrong. Remember what Brett had said that the Packers made him make up his mind early maybe they did and maybe they did not we do not know for sure because we all were not there. Were we? He does want to play again this season and just maybe Dream is right about the Packers really wanting Brett to come back and be the starting QB but not want to upset Rogers I had never even thought of it that way. Who knows? I do know that if the Texans do not make it I'll be cheering for Brett and the Packers i the playoffs and if they make it to the SuperBowl.

Dream is pulling a little bit of a daytime conspiracy theorist on that one if you want to be honest, and when faced with the facts I think he'd probably agree. I seriously doubt the Packers would have done all that they have before and after the Favrestorm™ if they intended to take Favre back all along. This wasn't a dog and pony show all for the benefit of Rodgers, that is without question. This split a community and some would say an organization.

There is a possibility that once faced with the prospect of having to either release Favre to the Vikings or take him back, they took the lesser of the two poison pills. He had already rescinded a few trade attempts and it was obvious he was angling for either Green Bay, Chicago, or Minnesota and no one else. Its obvious that Packers brass, to their credit, took a step back and realized that taking him back was the lesser 'evil'.

Personally, I wanted Favre to be a Viking and teach that GM a lesson about who really matters in the league. The players. It sure as hell isn't the GMs. Favre as a Viking would have been just high drama and one of the most compelling high profile sports stories in recent memory...but if the Pack werent going to take him back, they owed it to him to play elsewhere even if huge rival.

I applaud Goodell for seeing the big picture and not getting caught up in the legalities and excuses. He wasnt going to let the Packers string this around till the regular season effectively ending Favre's 2008 chances with anyone else. The Packers thought they were going to be able to do that, and arguably had a right to do so, but Goodell said 'No. Not Gonna Happen'. Favre is probably one of the most popular and notable players ever in the game and is especially popular amongst female fans for some reason. Goodell knows his customer and he was like 'Play Favre or I will find someone who will' That would have been a huge black eye for the league for Favre to be shut out or paid off.
