Texans & Austin - KEYE 2008

Well my friends, we are heading into the new football season here. How do you think KEYE is going to treat the Texans this year?

I bought the insurance of Sunday Ticket again this year just in case I can't make the bar and KEYE is continuing their treason.

So, the first question is: Will Austin residents be able to see Texans preseason games live this year?

I know KEYE favors the Cowboys here...and honestly you can't get mad at them...they are another Texas team, and KEYE has sinced dropped their "official station of the Texans" lie.

So will there be another station carrying the Texans?

You betcha!
I thought I saw someone somewhere say that at least the Broncos/Texans game was going to be televised in Austin, but I can't find the thread. If that person reads this, maybe you can repost?

The great thing about the "official station of the Texans" thing being removed - is that it was a DIRECT result of us on the boards sending them emails and telling them to drop it, because it's so damned insincere.

I'll keep my eyes open and post if I find out anything.

The problem between Texan fans and KEYE has nothing to do with the Cowboys. The Texans are an AFC team and KEYE handles the AFC games on Sundays. KEYE chooses to show Tack games over Texans games since VY is the Longhorns Lord and Savior.

I thought we covered this part.

He's talking about the pre-season. It has everything to do with the Cowboys.

Nobody's snapping! Sigh... man, message boards just aren't good for personal interaction. Haha.

I wasn't purposely being curt or short... just trying to make a succinct point and not repeat myself and talk it into the ground like I seem to do pretty often. :)

But since it's also part of the discussion - when the regular season starts, I see no reason to believe that the station won't keep doing what they have been doing. A quick look at the Texans/Titans schedules shows a ton of conflicts this year, just like last.

So it looks like it's going to be the same ol' BS.

Damnit! I thought this thread was going to be about how KEYE has rededicated themselves to the Texans and were REALLY going to be the official station of the Texans. Not that it matters to me personally. Since 3rd Base will be my home away from home.

Speaking of, didn't someone mention something about 1530 asking where Texans fans go to watch the games? What ever came of that?

I don't care, let's fight. I want some consequences and repercussions! :pirate: :specnatz: :D

I actually thought the same thing... I got excited for a second.

Getting back to it. I think it's a foregone conclusion the pre-season will belong to the Cowboys. I believe it would be that way the season after the Texans win the Super Bowl. It's just the way of the world in Austin and the Front Office apparently recognizes that and will never market this town.

I'm holding out hope I get to watch the Texans on Sundays. We have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs and I don't want to miss a game.

Well I know that you will be able to watch reruns of all the preseason games (expect vs Cowboys) on NFL Network. I emailed KEYE to ask what the preseason schedule is going to be like...I am sure I will hear from then soon.

Last year KEYE showed BOTH the Texans and Cowboys..I hope they do it again.

Anyone else going to Dallas for the preseason game?

Do you have Time Warner, Rockabilly? Looks like they're doing the Cowboys on the main KEYE channel, and the Texans on that secondary channel that they have. I don't know if you can actually get that other KEYE channel without digital cable or not... but BOTH of these channels are on Time Warner digital, and they're both available in HD. I got this screencap from the KEYE site:

Did they have two channels last year? Any chance they'll put the Texans on the secondary channel when there's a conflict with their precious Titans on the main channel?

I have DirecTV. OK, they did this last year...and it looks like they are doing it again.

The Cowboys will be on the regular channel (non HD)...because more people still have Standard Def TV's. The Texans will be on their HD Channel.

They did this last year. They can do this only for preseason games because they get rights from local affiliates who get rights from the teams (This is why Texans in Houston are on ABC in preseason. They cant do this in the regular season because the NFL and actual networks (not affiliates) have rights to the games.

Okay, I have DirecTV and I don't see this. On 8/9 on KEYE they are showing the cowpatties at 8PM on the HD Channel and the non-HD channel according to my guide. It doesn't appear to me that I will be able to recieve the game live.

However on NFLN they have the Broncos/Texans game at 9PM, FYI.

Well, the actual KEYE site - which are the ones who are actually showing the games - has it as you saw in the screen capture. I would think the actual local channel would know what they're broadcasting more than the giant national DirecTV guide.

Sorry, I did not see that before, I do see it now, I really hope DirecTV shows them both.

You probably wont see the difference on the directv guide because this is an odd case that they dont usually do. I remember it didnt show it on Time Warners guide when they did this last year.

Man I hate Grande. We'll probably get How To Look Good Naked or something idiotic like that oookaaaaaaay *snaps fingers over head*

I'm guessing KEYER is 42.2. My question is can you get that on HDTV that doesn't have cable, just local channels, and how? What type of a antenna do you need to get it?

OK for those of you who havent seen the Austin Radio thread, Axman is reporting that you can catch this weekends preseason game on the CW 52 which DirecTV and Time Warner customers get. And on Time warner you can get it on CW or that second KEYE channel.

Looks like we are safe for this preseason.

I hope this is the case, I will keep an eye on the guide on DirecTV, right now it doesn't show it, not that that is definite since it's a week out and they will probably change it later if this is the case.

You probably have to have a digital TV to get that channel. So an HDTV channel will be able to pick it up if you are recieving over the air broadcasts. I have no idea how that works for satellite though, I have never seen them show two different things on the HD channel and the non-HD channel but I have seen it on over-the-air broadcasts. Too bad I don't have a seperate antenae as a source directly to my HDTV (it has a built in tuner), too bad the dish doesn't act like an over the air antenae when the set top box is powered down. I have heard there is something you can install on the LNB of your satellite that will utilize the existing cable if your not watching your dish.....but I don't know how true it is.

NM, I just did channel search and it gave me all the available channels, including 42.2. Infact, now I have 3 CBS channels lol. I have a Toshiba HDTV for alittle over a year and never knew about the "extra" channels until recently, so I never bother doing channel search.

Thanks for the detail explanation though HT, rep for you.:)

Man Rockabilly you got me reeled into this thread hoping for good news but only the same ole same ole. Does this mean I need a new sig now too, damnit I knew sooner or later I would have to stop givving KEYE shite.
I have the NFL Ticket also and will proceed as last year some games at home some at 3rd Base .
Cowgirls are always on FOX, so we really only have to worry about the flaming meatballs from Tenn.

How far ahead do know what will be televised?
For the REGULAR season:

Last year I believe the NFL TV maps came out on the Tuesday or Wednesday before the games.

Sometimes the official KEYETV.COM site will show what game they'll have on when you use the guide (like the one I posted the screencap for). But sometimes, it will just say "TBD".

But the NFL maps were 100% accurate last year if I remember correctly - so again, Tuesday or early Wednesday the week before each game.

Here's the NFL TV Map site that us Austinites got the good (and bad) news from last year.

I remember that well, DHC. That prompted my first phone call to the good folks at K Y. I have made a pact of sorts with myself not to call them this year. It really doesn't do the cause any good. We'll see how long that lasts..lol.

I had the NFL Ticket last year, but the first Texan game shown on CBS wasn't till week 3. That was two great Texan games that were not aired. (vs. K.C. & at Carolina)
